probably too late for conquest but maybey in the ancient to medeavel ages certian ships could have boarding parties the two ships would be right next to each
other and the battle would take place as if it were on land.
what do you think about that?

You mean have an amphibious unit like the Bezerker attack another ship from a galley?

There is going to be an chance to capture the ship before it is beign destroyed. What I would like to see changed in naval combat is that Battleships would be given more bombardment strenght, because real life Battleships created much more damage to units than in the civ3, where their bombardment strenght is same as cannon's.

I think all ships need an improvement, not just Battleships. Something like this (Assumes Dromons replace Galleys, and not some Medieval ship):

Corough 20 1.1.3 (1)
Galley 30 2.1.3 (2)
-Dromon 30 3.2.3 (2) (I'm considering giving it a bomard)
Caravel 40 3.3.3 (3)
Galleon 60 3.4.4 (4)
Frigate 60 6.4.4 (0) 6.1.2
-ManOWar 60 7.4.4 (0) 7.1.2
Privateer 60 4.3.4
Ironclad 80 7.7.4 (0) 7.1.2
Destroyer 120 12.10.5 (0) 12.1.2 (probably should see Subs)
Transport 100 3.7.5 (8)
Submarine 100 10.5.3
Battleship 200 18.14.5 (0) 16.2.2
Carrier 200 1.8.4 (6A) (I increased the cost to add planes)
Nuclear Sub 120 10.5.5
Aegis Cruiser 140 14.14.5 12.2.2 (sees subs)

With the Seafaring trait, I can't imagine them not improving Naval combat

Capturing ships with boarding parties is a great idea, though would you lose the boarding party unit as they become the new crew of the captured ship?

it would be nice to capture ships ( or planes ), i mean you can capture artillery , why not ships

and perhaps UUs' like the Man-o-war, or that other stupid one whose name I shall not mention, can have the special benifit of not being capturable...

Didn't they say Privateers can capture ships

maybey i think i remember( or i have a mental disabilitie)

Do you think they'll add a ship in-between Galleys and Caravels? (Dromons might replace this ship)

I couldn't think of any ideas, does anyone have any?

It seems like a good idea to have something so I don't have to build the same ship

I agree entirely it is so annoying that when you conquer a city you see all of their aircraft being destroyed when you yourself would quite like to add it to your asenal.

I've actually had a ship caught in Port (in Civ2) and seen the attacker loose to the ship. So it was nice to see that my ships don't fight back anymore (Yes, this is Nice)

I think Capturing is definately how it should be done, though. Maybe they could become Conscripts, instead of maintaining their current dicipline.

Here is my theory on naval combat and the way I'm going to play random maps:

Curraghs upgrade to Caravels which now should be 0-2-5 and carry no units. The Portuguese should get a 2-2-4 caravel that carries two units. Galleys should upgrade to Galleases which would have indentical stats to the original Caravel and they would still upgrade to Galleons who still upgrade to Transports. The Caravel would upgrade to a PT-Boat and there should be two cruisers, and anti-air one and a cruise missile launching one. AEGIS Cruisers should be able to launch cruise missiles and take down aircraft as should Destroyers, at least with the cruise missile launching thing. Battleships should have lethal sea bombardment and should be much more expensive and powerful. Nuclear Submarines should carry 10 units and you should be able to capture Battleships, AEGIS Cruisers, A-A Cruisers, Cruisers, Destroyers, Submarines, Nuclear Submarines, Carriers, Frigates, Men-o-War, and PT-Boats in port but not Light Gunboats, Ironclads, or Galleons. Oh yeah, and Carriers should carry 20 units and Frigates should upgrade to Battleships.

All naval units in port should be capturable and all naval units up to destroyers should be capturable at sea.

At Trafalgar, 60 ships fought, half the French/Spanish fleet was captured, only 1 was sunk.

At the Nile, 75% of the French fleet was captured (including the Guerere (sp?) of USS Constitution fame). No ships were sunk.
