Navies and Air Forces

Strange, they always build decent airforces and even very large navys, they sometimes attack me with ~40-50 ships(in information age mostly) and they also build lots of bombers, I hate attacking other continents, when the AI already has an airforce-they just bomb my transports redlined and then just destroy them with some ironclads/destroyers/battleships...and there is nothing I can do :(

I suppose this depends on map size and difficulty level. Dunno the differences between Vanilla, PTW and C3C, but that may be relevant too.

When you move up to Regent/Monarch you won't find the AI lacking in ships or planes ;)

BUT, you still won't see any AI armies :(

I think this is one of the biggest Regent to Monarch change in C3C

I find the AI to build a real navy in monarch, compared to the mere 2-3 galley in the regent difficulty level.

Yet this depends on the age and the map size/formation

In C3C AI navy and airforce/airdefense routines have been strengthed. They will build lots of ships regardless of map size or difficulty... but obviously the more production bonus they get and the larger the map (more cities they have) the more ships you can expect to see.

The real big fleets don't emerge until the age of sail starts when the AI can escort transports with fighting ships. Before then, you'll see mostly lone transports. But once you hit age of sail and you don't have a strong navy, expect to lose control of the seas quickly when you face off against an AI who does have a strong navy.

The AI regularly bombs me from Carrier based aircraft. I don't usually know where they come from. Makes for an exciting game. C3C :D

They have decent fleets, Carrier, 2 Destoryers, Aegis Cruiser

Lower difficulty levels give a % of handicap to various aspects of growth, but also make building the better units minimal. Once you get to Monarch or so - you will miss the days of easy late game conquests. Not only will they use air and naval units on you, but they will target your best terrain tiles (ie- resources). And that can be a pain when it's oil or something that you need to attack their air or naval units....

Totally! I am just starting Emporer and its getting very competitive.

On my last game, I was nuked before i developed any nuclear weapons with the AI trying to knock out my oil and aluminium.

The AI also kept pumping out fleets of ships.

I used to go for Infantry, now i go for flight so i can build Flak units. Without any type of air defence any AI can reduce you to rubble.

I play on regent and the computer builds large navies even when there is only 2 main continents. And they stupidly use them to bombard my distant cities and never actual attack those cities with any troops.

I have yet to see a real AI air force though.

I see alot of AI Armies. atleast in this game I know that china has 3 in the field and egypt had 1...before i killed them all... and the iroquois have 2, but i've never seen more than one lowly battleship trodding around from an AI.. and every once in awhile i'll get bombed a few times. (playing PTW on regernt level.)

Yeah, in PTW the AI will build armies. Not in C3C though...

Well, depends on difficulty level etc, what I mean is that there is a bug in C3C which prevents the AI from using its GLs to create Armies.

To make the AI build more aircraft etc... you could always change the build preferences in the C3C editor.

If you think the navies are large on regent level - you have yet to feel the brunt of a real armada!

The AI hits strange cities early in the game...or at least so it appears. If the AI attacks what seems to be an unimportant city, it's probably because that city has a Modern Age resource that has yet to be revealed in your game. The AI can, and does, see all - there's no fog-of-war for them. Are they still stupid? Yeah, but they should be stupid on regent level...

You will see the air force soon...soon...you may even be able to hear them in the distance... Yes, yes - they are coming for your resources. And believe me, they won't quit until you have no oil & yes, no air defenses.

I was always playing on regent for about 4 months, this resulted in a lot of games, and in the majority, I would say 90% the AI had a minimal navy and airforce. However i have been playing at monarch for about 2 months now, and i have noticed a vast improvement in the AI's navy and airforce. They have at least 60 ships, which is still only about half of mine. But the airforce is where i become puzzled. Their airforce was at least 20 times larger than that of theirs in regent. Crazy Stuff.
