NCSG1-Suryavarman II!

I got it, but will wait for some discussion since it'll be about 24 hours before I can play it anyways. Have not yet peeked at the save (Essays are fun!).

Thats not too bad bro, no worries. You accomplished some important goals, getting courthouses up and getting good hammers into the Mids.

We do need to worry about JC now though. I dont want to see a stack of Praets and Cats showing up.

We still have a nice land advantage and are going to start teching much better with the Mids. I am not too worried here, Qin is a goner sooner than later. Man it sucks he took that good spot on us, we may have to raze that piece of crap, why do the AIs settle 1-off the coast so much?

That was a bad set schwartz? Man if that was me I'd be well pleased with my play and attention to detail.

With caeser not liking us I was wondering if any of our cities have a religion other than Conf. I'm not advocting an immediate switch but running a small religion will not make us popular! Of course when/if we go into OR then we can spam some missionarys to boost our economy and maybe get some peeps to convert. Should we try to get the AP for ourselves? Could be pretty fun with a religiously divided contient!

I just noticed that the 100% stone bonus on the mids affects the whip hammers! I'm going to try this in my next game for shizal.

I wass also thinking that razing Qins city would be a good idea. Lets let him develop the area a bit first!

Also if Caesar is pissed at us I think we need Xbows followed by Maces fast. Xbows up the drill line IMO to max the damage done before the praets get a chance to even strike. I'm warming to drill these days. Its pretty versatile and the reduced colateral damage is just sweet!

Hey Schwartz, good turnset

And if were on the subject of :smoke: Moves, my setting the hague to build a library (which you rectified) when it has no food and no beakers has to go down as one of the bigger ones.

With the prats, would xbow's be better getting shock +75% versus melee? they would just eat prats for lunch.

Well.. I was really tired when I played that set so my mistakes seemed rather huge at the time. Seems better now that I'm awake

Couple things that I didn't mention though:
We only have confucian cities, we'll need to sign OB to get another one to spread (And have Confucianism spread too. More :smoke: on my part :()
Caesar is NOT currently in WHEOOHRN, so we have some time yet.
We must spread our religion, the shrine will be huge if we can get some missionaries.

@ Bleys

Speaking of one tile off the coast, Caesar's city near my "option 2" is ALSO settled one tile off the coast.

Great job Schwartz, our plans should focus on getting some iron to defend ourselves maybe.

100AD (180):

Preflight check. Taking a tour of our cities to see if I can MM them. Yaso is 18 turns on the mids and we've been whipping units there for overflow into the mids. It's also due to be pissed in 3 turns, but I think whip anger fades too. Hit F2 and see our unit cost is at 4 and unit supply is at 1. Supply is expected with the raiders at barb town, but the cost could be saved on, and we don't need more units. Power Graph says we are just below Qin (which is never a good place to be, but better that nothing). Look around our empire and see various outdated warriors standing around. Fire 3 warriors guarding Hari, Thom, and Wat (better units there anyways). Also fire the fogbusting Warrior to the north. Don't need that there, and he's costing us supply. We are now breaking even at 50% beakers O.o.

Southern archer starts to head back and uncovers a barb worker. Looks like we're getting a free worker next turn.

The Hague is building an Axeman with no barracks :smoke:. As Khmer, we don't need a monument, so I dial up a barracks to solve that problem.

Amsterdam has a Library in 7, but is making 4 commerce total right now. This city has decent food output thanks to the wheat, and 4 hills plus the grassland iron (not to mention the two forests). It's better configured as a production kraftwerck, but since the Library is half done, I'll let it finish before looking at anything else. Want to swap the lake to the mine for the library to finish faster, but that will slow growth and tech. Hilariously, it still has a lighthouse from when we captured it, because we can't build lighthouses ourselves!

Hari is working on a worker but has a scientist hired. Fire him for an extra turn on that worker. We want Hari growing.

Thom is stagnated because it will be pissed if it grows next turn. Notice that we've got loads of health, but almost no happy (only the ivory from phants). Priority needs to be hooking up some more luxuries ASAP. We have wine, silk, and dye in our territory, incense in the middle of that desert (we can put a not-so-junk junk city there to get it. Has a lot of dead tiles, but the lives ones are fairly decent. Also have silver in the hills just outside of Hari and furs to the south of The Hague. So we have plenty of lux, just have neglected to hook them up. That along with whipping has us capped almost everywhere. Hopefully we'll net mids and can run Rep for the happy.

Back to Thom, it's building a Sword, and there's nothing much I can do to help that, so I leave it.

Wat is completely buried in jungle, and needs to be dug out before we can do anything with it.

Running Sci at 60% at -4gpt, for Aesthetics in 9.

Dial up the rivals. Let's see.

-Suleiman is our worst enemy.
-JC is our worst enemy.
-Toku is our worst enemy.
-China is cautious to us.
-Ragnar is our worst enemy.

Ok, so the diplomatic situation could be better. Everyone hates us, and when asked about War, Suleiman gives us the "We have enough on our hands right now." Ok... Meanwhile, none of the AIs are even annoyed at each other. Suleiman also has open borders with JC. Time to start the war machine it looks like.

Only person who's not out for our blood is the backstabbing Qin, which I will now take the opportunity to trade with, before we get wiped out tech wise. I NOTICE that we were working on sailing before but decided to put it off. Huh?

I don't revolt to Hereditary Rule yet, because we want the best chances for our Mids build, and we'll want Rep after that anyways. Monarchy unlocks vineyards though, so will pull a worker to Yaso to work the wines.

115AD (181):

Excessive stack burns barb city to the ground taking no casualties and netting the worker and 60ish gold. I was going to take a screenshot, but forgot and pressed BURN before print screen :(.

Worker was randomly standing in the woods by Yaso. So pulled him towards the grapes for next turn.

130AD (182):

We get a free Confusion of The Hague, and some prophet is born somewhere far away. Worker starts on the wine, and I notice the useless scout in the middle of our territory so he gets disbanded. Pillage barb town's improvements for the cash, and move units en mass back into our territory to cut supply.

145AD (183):

Mahabodi built far away. I guess it was Ragnar's Great Prophet then. I slap my forehead as I realize that the worker was supposed to chop a forest for Yaso. Gah!

Worker is done in Hari, I dial up a settler. Hari is nicely improved, so the worker will head to Wat to help with the slashing.

Notice something significant.

Spoiler :
set2jcnoiron.jpg

JC doesn't appear to have any iron, because he wants ours. I don't see any in his territory right now either. In fact, according to the Trade Advisor, Toku doesn't have Iron either.

160AD (184):

Qin dials us and wants Open Borders. He's known to be a backstabber, and we haven't filled in our territory yet, while having him blocked off. I tell him to go home.

Library done in Amsterdam, so I dial up a barracks.

175AD (185):

Nothing but moving units and workers this turn. The mass of axes is headed for Thom.

190AD (186):

A forest popped near Hari, but not in the fat cross, so it's just chop fodder.

205AD (187):

Rome got some random event that gave Antium a border pop or something, but it's near to Suleiman, so whatever.

220AD (188):

Nada, still building stuff.

235AD (189):

Spoiler :
set2aesthetics.jpg

Dialing up Lit.

Qin will trade Mono and Math, but not both for Aesthetics, which I don't feel like giving up anyways.

250AD (190):

Mids in 6, whip 3 for now, or let Yaso grow in 3. Wine will be up and running in 3, so I elect to let it grow.

Rax finished in Amsterdam, so dial up an Axeman.

265AD (191):

Nothing happening except a mine finishing at The Hague, which would mean sick production, except that The Hague is sort of food short.

280AD (192):

Thom gets a free Confusion, while Amsterdam has its borders pop. Hague finishes its Barracks and wants to close out the Axe, but I switch it to a lighthouse.

Wine is in this turn and Yaso grows the next, so no pissed people.

295AD (193):

Yaso grew, and mids are still due in 3, so hire a scientist spec.

Hari finished its settler, and I want the silver hooked up, so I send the settler south. However, I don't like the "City?" sign, because although it gets river access, , the arable land is simply garbage. A better spot is in between the two resources, because it nets the marble to the north, and another immediately irrigable tile beside it. Will make a pic next turn.

Hari meanwhile orders up another settler.

310AD (194):

Wat granary done this turn. Dial up some courts.

Found... uh... Nagara Jayasri. These city names are killing me.

Spoiler :
set2naga.jpg

Right, we have swords done at Thom, and I now notice we've got extra happy from the wine and from the Confusion spread. So put the scientists back on the high food tiles for now. Also dial up a Monastery.

Axe is done at Amsterdam. I would dial another Axe, but the upkeep will keep rising, so I settle for a temple.

Naga gets a granary by default.

325AD (195):

Nada, building and clearing jungle.

340AD (196):

Spoiler :
set2mids.jpg

Revolt to representation.

We get a random Buddhist spread in Wat :(

Yaso goes for a lighthouse, which will start next turn.

355AD (197):

Out of anarchy, and lots of room to grow the big cities. Thom is growing like a weed and not likely to stop. Lit due in 2 turns.

370AD (198):

Nada.

385AD (199):

Spoiler :
set2lit.jpg

I tentatively set research to Currency. It looks like JC has it already though, although he still won't trade with us.

We get randomly Jewish in Naga :(. Also, Hari gets its border pop.

Also among interesting events this turn...

Spoiler :
set2sulei-vs-toku.jpg

I guess I called it wrong. Funny, because Suleiman hates us.

400AD (200):

Quiet last turn. JC adopts Hereditary Rule. Also, sheep at Naga is hooked up this turn.

Spoiler :
set2territory.jpg

We need to find a spot to plop down the Great Library. I haven't started it yet because I don't want to waste hammers. Also, there was probably some major :smoke: in there by me, because I tried to do the thing with the unit whipping in Yaso, but it screwed up and wouldn't give me a 2 pop whip after the first turn of the build. So I gave up and just let it build naturally. So cities have had some whipping respite (I don't like whipping a whole lot), and can probably be whipping more if we really want to. I'd rather just hire specs.

Roster:
1. Krick19
2. Groogaroo
3. Schwartz
4. S.ilver <-- Just Played
5. Rex rgis of Ter ** UP NOW **
6. Grandad <-- On Deck

Nice set.

I noticed the cottage east of Hari. IMO that want to be a farm. When CS comes in we can chain that down to Snaggle Pus or whatever its called! Also with the spread of Judaism and Buddism to our cities maybe a swap would be in order for the diplo benifits?

I think the GL should go to Hari because its got alot of food and really strong commerce potential.

Now we're in rep we should be lighter on the whip as well so we can max our beakers gained form specs.

Nicley played S.ilver,

If we're not really getting much use out of our religion it might be a good idea to switch it to try and build bridges with the other AI.

Funny that Julius and Toku don't have Iron (if that is the case).

Is it about time to change from 20 to 10 turns for the next turnset?

Silver:
Good set, thanks for rectifying some of my :smoke: and continuing with our plans.
Also, I'm going to remember to put up some signs for units that aren't actually carrying out any orders, like that worker :). Also, I think we need to get out of confucianism asap, that's why we have 'worst enemy' with everyone. We need to join either the buddhists or jews right now, try to get some spread of one of those religions.

I'd say lets be Jewish, as Sulieman will make a good buffer between us and the Buddists, Caesar is a Hindu on his own so who cares what he thinks, and when we capture Qins cities we'll be in the right religion to get the benifts ASAP. What do you guys think?

I was actually wondering if my revolting into Rep so quickly was :smoke: or not. It's a normally an easy decision for me, because I hardly use the whip at all, and slavery is not a preferred civic of mine in BtS, because it's medium upkeep, as opposed to low in vanilla. But you guys are fond of whipping, and I wasn't sure we'd get much use out of the specs. I went for it anyways, because it was only 2 gpt more expensive than Hereditary Rule at the moment, and the +3 happy in 5 cities is cheaper than building enough military garrison to give the equivalent.

I've stuck signs on two spots for filler cities, which actually don't seem too bad. The desert city is really boosted by the appearance of the iron (no rush to hook it up btw Kirck, because we have Iron in Amsterdam). The city has 5 lake tiles that I think can be boosted by a lighthouse, the wheat, the incense, and the iron. It also has 3 serviceable grasslands, so not bad for some commerce, and it's close to the capital so we won't die with maintenance.

The Arctic City site is actually better than I first thought, because of the river. It's actually pretty decent without the river, because it has 2 fish, the deer, the silver, and the copper, so it can support a decent pop with enough production to sustain itself. But I had forgotten that the river makes adjacent tundra tiles irrigable, so it can work those tiles food neutral and net an extra commerce for being beside a river. That actually helps Naga more because almost its entire southern fat cross is tundra, and that river runs right through it.

The only spots I'm unsure of is in the South West, because, other than the 5 furs, there is no visible food down there. There are crabs, but only accessible from that tundra island, making any city build there a Maoi city at best. The Hague is done it's lighthouse next turn though, so might want to pop out a workboat to see if there's anything else worthwhile hidden in the fog. The 5 beavers aren't worth settling otherwise, because we can't work them.

Our economy looks sucky right now, but that's from the lack of cottages, which will be coming up online with Thom and Wat. IMO, we should cottage every flatland square up there. Build only ONE plantation for each resource, so the AIs won't demand it from us. The cottages are better than plantations anyways. Sugar plantation at Wat when the time comes, so we don't have to chain farm from the lake.

As for targets... I think we should spend some time building up our economy first before we do anything in that direction. I think we want to dispose of Qin first though, because he's a backstabber, and because killing him would consolidate our borders and prevent the obvious two front war. Either way, both Qin and JC get along with everyone, so we'd rack up more -1s for declaring war on people's friends.

Nice work S.ilver, this game should be a breeze from here.

Good job Silver, and GL Rex. I think we should move to 10 turns per round. 10 TURNS PER ROUND NOW GUYS. < Big so people will notice it.

I think the others still played 20?

IMO Hari is abit food poor at the mo. Maybe you could farm over some of the cottages? I don't know what the others think about that though.

Tech IMO should be aimed at getting the happy resourses online so you got a coice of MC, Calender, and Monarchy. I'd say MC as a preference of those 3 as you get a nice production boost as well. Assuming I haven't missed something and we already have one of those of course!!!

If MC then it might be time to think ahead to maces.

Sadly, we don't have lots of Calender or forge boosted :)

Also revolt to a more popular religion might be a good idea.

And I'd love the mooon on a stick.....

We have a silver, so a forge is worth it. I like MC heading to Machinery and CS for Maces myself. Maybe even burn a GE on Machinery if we get one.

10 turns it is, we have the Mids so keep the specialist counts up if possible.
