Need advice on Deity-Progress

Hmm, I guess the AI also doesn't set the production to science 5 or so turns before the birth/buying of a Great scientist in the modern/atomic/information Era? That might be an exploit as well like using the culture process before getting a great writer.

I'd be in favor of a significant nerf to the World fair.

Progress culture right now is in a weak place but overall Progress is still fine.

Progress needs to focus on culture and science more than tradition does but tradition has production problems outside the capital.

Progress is probably my favorite tree on the current patch. Part of it is based on warring with the AI. There are certain windows. It's easy to keep up for a little bit. Then the AI takes off around medieval and it gets precarious. That's rough for authority, so I prefer Progress a lot of the time. Its tempting to go very wide but it can be hard for culture, et cetera to keep up.

The AI is often running processes at stage, science is probably the most common. So maybe not as optimal as humans but good enough.

I suggest not counting process yields when calculating great people yields.

Okay so I didn't finnish that first Maya game because I lagged behind more and more. I started a second Maya game where everything went my way in the early game. I had a wooded area with Cacoa. In contrast to my first attempt I went straight for mathemetics this time.I produced a tiny army that harassed my neighbour (the Romans) and kept at 1 city till I had researched Mathemetics. This meant I got at least 2 more great persons form the calendar!

My first great person was a great admiral to scout the world (thanks for the tip on that one!). After that I got an early engineer and was able to enhance my religion 1 turn after founding! Even though I lucked out on almost everything in the early game I still had a bit of a struggle with culture in the midgame. I eventually went Progress- Piety-Rationalism-Freedom. Piety was the right call since I had a strong religion and the AI was completely shutting me out of CS alliances by late game. Due to relentless wars and massive Diplo unit-spam! My science was formidabble however and made sure I could acchieve a Science victory!

My thoughts so far:
1) The Maya are fun and stronger than I expected! Normally I'm not impressed by the unique improvements in Vox Populi but the Kuna are really great!
2) I only settled 7 cities for the whole of the game. And I only settled after reaching mathematics. I was exceptionally lucky to still be able to get my important city locations this late! I still believe Progress should get some help in early peacefull settling.
3) Happiness was doable this time around but Culture still lagged for a while after settling my cities. Maybe we should raise the culture for buildings policy a tiny bit from 10-15? Progress would still be slow culture-wise but would at least be able to catch-up a bit better in mid-late game.

G said in another thread that 15 is the intended value.

I'm curious how exactly it is calculated and it is easy to just leave out types of yields. It appears to me that faith bought great writers get less than normal ones, but this could easily be confirmation bias.

I get the same impression, but I never tested it. Something I should do on my next Progress game.

I justed tested it on an old save, current version. There is no difference between Great Writers obtained from either way other than the order in which you get them.
