need help in relationships

I've got lots of trouble with my foreign relationships. right now, every civ is hostile to me, and my reputation is spotless. I had an alliance with the Chinese but when I asked them for a gift (I figured that would be ok, since the chinese also asked for a gift from me, which I gave them), they dissolved the alliance and called me sniveling and greedy. and some civilizations have been hostile before I contacted them ( I have marco polo's). I don't get it. When they demand me to give them a tech or else I'll face the consequences, should I click on "Consequences, Schonsequences" or give them the tech? and I play warlord.

Are you plaing single player or the multiplayer version?

In the multiplayer version the AI is very hostile. But still what you describe is extreme.

This sounds like the Gold version. Even at Warlord level, if you have pulled ahead of the AIs with more techs and cities, they do get very hostile. In order to keep them more friendly, you have to gift them something everytime you contact them. You can also try to keep your power rating lower than theirs, than they may take pity on you and give you a gift, but in Gold, your best move is to "beat up" on the AIs constantly. You know they are gonna be hostile, so you might as well make the best of it and go for war.

If you want to really play a peaceful type game, your best bet is to get a copy of the Classic version and try that. The AI is much less hostile in that version.

yeah, I play multiplayer gold edition. so do most people here play MPGE or classic?
