need help with digital purchase

i downloaded civ 3 gold from fileplanet and now it says i need an activation code in order to play it. I have no idea where to get that, and the webpage that i downloaded the game from says nothing about purchasing the game or getting an activation code. All i want to do is play civ can somebody please help me out?

Civ 3 is not free, you need to buy it from somewhere such as direct2drive, steam or the many other places that sell it. It doesn't cost much (civ 3 complete is your best bet) but you need to buy it to get the code for the digital distribution version or buy through steam to activate there.

Click on the "Buy Games" tab along the top (next to the red IGN Prime button). That takes you to www.direct2drive.com so you can't buy directly from the site you have linked to.

There are other places to buy it from which may (or may not) be cheaper.
