I'll be hosting an MP game. Looking to get a couple more. Currently we have 5 people, possibly a 6th. We would like 8 at minimum, hopefully 10 people, with an AI wildcard team. Rules we're interested in playing by:

Every Saturday night, or Sunday with a week's notice.
2 hours each weekend. Default time going to be Saturday 6pst-8pst.
12 civs, 24 city states, broken up into 2 man teams.
Teams are allies, but not shared map/science in game.
Largest map size, map tbd. Leaning towards Continents.
All victory types except time.
Both expansion packs, no minor DLC.
Quick combat, turns, movement.
Barbarians and Ruins on.
Difficulty tbd. Emperor or King probably.

The one caveat we're looking into and are interested in, is keeping all human players participating until the end, while still allowing for a domination victory type:

EDITS BASED ON FEEDBACK:
Capitulation after capital is conquered

A conqueror can take a human capital, but he must pillage the tiles surrounding it and liberate it back after its halved in population.

After it's given back, you change the name of the capital to reflect the dominated status, but you're still in the game as a vassal state.

You aren't allowed to build an army, you immediately gift or delete every military unit you have., but you inherit the same war/peace statuses as your conquerer.

You gift all extra copies of luxuries to the conquerer and enter into any research/defensive agreement they choose.

You must place spies where the conquerer deems fit and share all intel.

You must adopt whatever religion the conqueror desires.

You must send all trade routes to them if they desire.

You get to keep control of what buildings/units you produce as long as they're not military.
You can settle new lands as you see fit.

The only way to get out of this is via rescue from other teams and city states. All three conditions must be met:
Conqueror is embargoed
World Ideology Freedom

Once this happens, and any defensive pact expires, you must get 1 other Civ to declare war with you on your conqueror.
If this happens all limitations are removed forever, the downside being the conqueror can now wipe you off the map should he so choose.

Lastly, you don't have to stay in the game if you're conquered if you don't want to, just realize it will hurt your Ally team partner significantly.

AI is obviously exempt from all this.

Let me know what you guys think, just need a couple more people to keep it interesting.

Not allowed to take another human's capital.

If you are reduced to just your capital, you must agree to capitulation. This is announced via chat. In your capital you produce what they want, vote how they want. You are not allowed a military, you immediately gift or delete every military unit you have. You only get to keep your capital. You become a vassal state and must enter into defensive and friendship agreements with the oppressor with open borders.

You had me until this point. Why make things unnecessarily complicated AND ridiculously harsh to someone who gets wiped out? If you get your capital taken you've lost and get exit the game. This is more than fair to everyone involved and allows someone to actually trigger a victory condition by the end of the game.

This sounded awsome until the part where you have to sit around doing nothing, being bored as hell if you lose. Why would anyone want to waste precious hours of their life doing nothing in a game they already lost?

The intent being we want diplomatic victory to not seem hollow, and be a viable alternative to conquering. Maybe the vassal states should be given votes for World Leader?

This is why we're still open to changing the rule as described. The intent is:

We all play civ5 alot together and fear if someone is knocked out early, they miss out on potentially weeks of gameplay, seeing as we can all commit to only like 2 hour windows each weekend. We're all on voice chat together playing.

How could the rule be tweaked to fit the idea we have in mind? We want domination available as a victory condition, but we want people to stay in and have fun/stuff to do while playing as a vassal. Should we let vassals do whatever they want just no military? Small military allowed, but can't move outside of their borders? What about no military allowed but Council/UN votes allowed? I dunno.

Not ideal, but we just wanted to look at that as an option so everyone can enjoy the game until the end. If the conditions for this aren't good, we can all agree to just play normally and whoever gets knocked out is just out of luck.

I don't think that idea would make diplomacy any less hollow. All it is doing is making domination appear to be a diplomatic Vic. You just kill ppl to get votes. How does one decide when they're dead? I have repelled attacks with my city at zero life before.

Prehaps a king of the hill type scenario where you must first capture a person's cap and pillage all their tiles, then the cap is liberated back to them, most likely at 1 - 2 pop. Then they are essentially starting from scratch again but on your team now.

After that they can do whatever they want but must play as if theyre on your team and follow your orders. Since science is shared in a team, it would have to be setup teams that arnt actually utilizing the team feature.

I think I'm interrested in playing this game, but right now I'm alone and maybe 1 saturday by month I wont be able to play because of travelling...

Yeah this is good, more along the lines of what I was thinking. Something that keeps them in the game, but they're on the checklist of teams that have been dominated. Could change the name of the capital to make it clear and everything.

Yeah I didn't mention it, but we do want to be on our own "team" in game, just allied with 1 other person permanently for this very reason.

Updated the first post to reflect some of this.

We're not starting till sept 7th, so ill message you guys and any others that respond before next weds/thurs. Saturday is the default time, we may play an occasional sunday instead. Any days people miss they will be controlled by the AI. Any sat/sun you know you can't make let us know way in advance to try and accommodate for ahead of time.

I'll contact you two tonight. We are now at 8 people, not including anyone new from this thread. The capitulation/vassal rules are still up in the air and may not even be used. Anyone else willing to join let me know.

Did this start already?

Yes, the two who responded before the start I wasn't able to get ahold of (sorry LeFantome you didnt put steam name up earlier). We ended up finding 3 more people who know irl to fill in the roles. We are now doing an 8 man match, with 2 man teams, and an AI squad in there to force some conflicts.

If someone drops out, or we start another match, you guys will be first contacted. It's going well thus far, just wish we could play more than once a week. Another thing I'm considering is just starting a 2nd game, with those people who can play on a different day.

What are your guy's steam names? So we can setup a 2nd big game on a different day, or earlier on saturday.

CraigMak?

Yes, my steam name is CraigMak. Feel free to add me. I can bring in an ally too so that would be 2 more people. I have never successfully played a really big game to the finish. If we can get a bunch of people with excellent lag it would be pretty awsome.

haha I assume you mean excellent ping or zero lag, but yeah I can say from the first game we started with 8 people, its 10x more fun than beating up on the AI

Yeah, I would like to see how a really big 10+ player game pans out. Without quitters.
It seems that usually 2 or 3 people quit when the GL is made. Really? Then about 10 turns later some quits simply because they have the lowest score. After that some one gets conquered and everyone leaves at once for no apparent reason.

well we haven't had anyone quit yet, but its only turn 70 something and then we had to stop until this saturday. We all know each other in real life, hopefully thats key to no quitters.

For the 2nd game, what days/time you guys want to look at playing?

I would be fine with any reasonable time on Saturday or Sunday. I'm on Pacific time so not too early in the morning. Most weekdays after 7PM PST would work for me.
