I just got the 2 expansions to Civ 4, and with the new changes and stuff I am having a hard time tring to play now. At first I tried noble, but then I scaled down to Warlord and I am still having the same issues.

So far my favorite people are the Celtic and Sumerians but i am leaning toward Sumerians.

What I am looking for, or rather asking for is some helpful tips.

You're going to have to be more specific on what sort of help you need.

Why are you now having a hard time whereas you didn't before?

Also, many of the old tricks have been largely eliminated, and the AI has (arguably) been improved with better co-ordinated attacks and somewhat better responses to being attacked.

I'd suggest that you continue to read the threads and follow the (many) demonstration-type games now posted on the forum for ideas. Try to implement some new strategies, and be prepared to try and yet fail from time to time as a learning experience.

Best of luck! :)

well AI seems to always attack me.
When I have 4 cities they have 4+ cities.
When I have a decent army they have tons of armys.
They just seem to out do me no matter what I try and do.

I completely understand where you are coming from, I'm sure all of us do in fact. The best tip I would have outside of practicing and not sticking to just one strat is reading a lot of the Challenge games on this forum you can learn a heck of a lot from them, I know I certainly did.

Civ has a steep learning curve. Heck I still learn things every game I play and I've had Civ IV and the expansions since (their respective) release and I've just recently won my first monarch game. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll succeed.

maybe with the changes its what i do in the beginning that is hurting me. Just played a game with a friend and he did good just playing where as me planning ended up getting owned.

heres my what i do in the beginning:
First city - build warrior - worker - settler - worker - settler - worker(2) - settler till i have 4 cities.
2nd city - Military based - start working defense units
3nd city - commerace/science
4th city - GSP or military depends on how things are going

Research wsie
Archery - Bronzeworkering - Head to Code of Laws

Try to build Oracle, Great wall if possible.

so far that's what i try and do and it's not working in Noble and in Warlord.

Maybe try an early rush rather than focus on settling and being too defensive? It will depend to some extent how close and threatening your neighbours are.

I'm not sure how aggressive you're being with chopping and whipping.

You can live without The Great Wall unless you have Stone or are Industrious and really feel the need for it.

well normally when I place my 4th city, they are starting to border my borders, shortly there after while I am tring to manage my stuff, they start attacking me, specially when I find a religion, it's like they attack right after that.

Great Wall, Founding a religion and managing your stuff... it all sounds like you are just forgetting to build troops.

Having neglected your army badly is the most common reason for beeing attacked by the AI. Diplomatic relation play a role also - so if you found a religion, convert to it, you are probably at a different faith than the AI, gaining some diplo . But diplomathy is a bit less decisive than power. I.E. if you have good relations but no troops, the AI will still backstab you at times.
