I usually play on emperor with seven civ's so could i have some advance as to how to improve my rate of tech discovery. I just can't to seem to advance quickly enough.

Keep your tax rate at maximum science as long as possible, couple this with building The Great Library and that should usually put you ahead of any computer player.

You can also trade the other civs for Tech, but be careful not to trade important ones that may give them an advantage or take away your advantage.

You can also steal techs from the Comps while you research other ones.

There are aslo other wonders that can aid in your science outout. Colossus, Copernicus's Observatory, and Issac Newton's College can all increase your science production.

Be sure to build libraries and universities if you need more science output.

Build the above wonders in the same city, preferably in the middle of 4 "specials" like silk, whales, wine, gold etc and science will never be a problem again on any level.2 or 3 trade specials will do.Rivers don't hurt either.

Caravans/freights-build and deliver many of them. You get a one time science beaker bonus equivilent to the gold received in addition to long term trade routes.Check science advisor before and after delivery.....the most you can get is 2/3 of what is needed..so deliver just after a discovery for max bonus.

One more thing. Create trade routes in addition to the excellent advice above. Trade routes have a direct effect on science output, as well as luxuries and taxes. Even if all of your routes are domestic, at least it's something. But try to trade with other civs too, because those routes are more lucrative, especially if the city you're trading with is a nice sized city on another continent on the other side of the world. Also, don't forget to build Superhighways and Airports in your cities, and connect them by railroads, as this increases the payout in your trade routes, and thus, your science output. Oh, and try to build the SETI Project. It'll give you a free Research Lab in all of your cities, adding 50% science to each city.

Yes, caravans are the key. I would strongly advice not to build the great library. It gives you much worthless techs which will slow down your tech path.

The key to much science is caravans in combination of huge cities. You should always try to trade with enemy cities.

This is also relatively new to me, but if you trade with an enemy city when your own city is 20+, this can give you a 2000 gold! if the gold is equivalent to the science you get, you will get 2000 beakers!

So basically big cities, with much trade and science improvements, combined with caravans to foreign cities can give you a tech every 2 turns, or even better.

If you are really good at this and have a lucky start, the game becomes very silly. you can actually do AC before AD and build stealth bombers around 500 bc.

Dont pin me down on this, the concept of caravans is slightly new to me. However in apolyton they have already proven this is possible.

Choosing the right government is also important, especially early in the game. Research Monarchy or Republic ASAP. After a few advances, technology becomes almost completely stagnant in Despotism, so it's important to switch quickly to a more advanced government.

I thought the program would not allow a SS lauch before 1 AD... evidently, the programmer (Brian) just did not assume people could be ready that soon. But I wouldn't mind a tutorial on how to advance through all 87 and be building Stealth in 500 BC. Though have never built a stealth bomber (I like stealth fighters better), it would be impressive to see thosed big beasts lumbering around in 500 BC

... My earliest SS is mid-1500's in an OCC game. Never before 1700 in a full game (e.g., big war, lots of cities).

Build more Science Improvments because even a humble man of learning needs a place to rest his parchment.

in deity if you are doing great you can build the statue of liberty by 260ad.

LOL, isn't that a little late for the SoL? But seriously, the SoL can be the most important wonder of it's era, if your science is slow and your empire is large and sprawling. Commie/Fundy will solve your happiness problems at a time when a full democracy is not yet possible due to inadequate technology. But it comes at a price... more food support for settlers, and settlers are slow in making roads (and of course everything else, but roads are the achilles' heel). If your settler corps is small, Commie is a great bargain over monarchy.

In fundy, most people cannot (or do not know how to) get the most out of science, like an advance every turn (or two). As a result, entering Fundy will ****** the advance of technology and delay the entire game significantly, unless your opponents are in powerful democracies/republics and "drag you along".

One thing which I always do to in my games is I raise my "science" city as big as I can under rebuplic and democracy with "we love president day" and when city cant grow anymore I turn all happy dudes to science dudes. And when u have city which is size 8 or 12 and u dont have constuction or sanitation and city cant grow be sure to change them to science dudes untill u get these technologies and build these improvements. Also I have noticed that in beginning of game Hanging gardens is quite good wonder cos with that its easy to get "welovesomebodyday" in your city and in under monarchy it still effect like colossus and gives 1 happy dude in your every city.
This might be bit hard to understand but I think noone mentioned these things. If somebody can do it better I hope they do.
