I bought Civ 5 on disk when it first came out and loaded it on a laptop provided to me by my workplace. Tomorrow I get a new laptop, and want to load it there. I understand that I could actually have Civ 5 loaded on several computers as long as I only played it on one at a time, but I'd like to uninstall Civ before I return the present computer.

Are there any potential problems I should be aware of before I uninstall? (I've transferred my saves to a thumbdrive.)

Once I have the new computer, do I just run the disk and the game should be up and running? Or do I somehow have to notify Steam that it has been installed on a new computer?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice offered.

Uninstallation is incredibly fast with Steam, just right click on the game in your library and click "delete local content". You can also uninstall the same way as any other program as well though, and that is how you'd remove Steam (which since this is a laptop you are retuning to your workplace I recommend doing too).

You can back up the game files for Civ5 (patches and all) also by right-clicking which can be moved to a new computer via a hard drive, USB drive or burning onto a DVD (although in that case I'd just reinstall using your Civ5 disks :p). This skips having to redownload all the patches although depending on your internet speed and the size of the game it could take just as long to backup the files and install them on the new computer :p

You don't need to notify Steam or anything, it doesn't care how many computers you install the game onto.

Thanks for giving me the sense that this will go smoothly. I'm doing all right in a deity game just now and relish the thought that I'll be able to get it up and going without problem (and with better graphics!)
