Need vanilla CD to install/play?

I'm planning to pick up BTS, but I can't find my Civ IV disc 1. I'm staring at a box, manual and disc 2, but just an empty envelope where disc 1 used to be. I'm sure its in a CD case somewhere, but there's no telling with two young children.

Civ IV is already installed on my computer. Would I need disc 1 to install or play BTS?

If you already have Civ4 installed on your computer, then no, you can just install BTS and use the BTS disk to play BTS. If you don't have Civ4 installed, then you need to get your hands on a Civ4 disk.

No as long as it's installed and it's still a good install you won't need your disks, BTS will patch Civ4 to 1.74, but if you plan on always playing bts your not in trouble.
