New Civ 4 patch coming up?

Necromancy is fun.

Anyone heard anything about this in regards to any further patches? Just as confirmation of my kick in the nuts. :D Did you never hear from them Shigga?

Why they can't do like Blizzard?

Because 2k doesn't want to is the basic answer here. And they have no reason to because people continue to purchase the products they support.

Firaxis is small firm

Which is making many games..

that can't finnancialy support developing new games and patching old ones.

Civ4 isn't old.

It's publishers responsibility to fund game development and patching process.

You say it's 2K fault ?

AFAIK there are no bugs in SMAC

AFAIK = ?
SMAC = ?

So actually I'd say Firaxis is doing far better than Blizzard.

Why ?
Blizzard do patches.
Firaxis doesn't.

All the people who made the magic happen have gone on to work for other gaming companies.

But WoW their last game is their biggest product...

or Civ IV as grossly game breaking as the Gloom lightning damage bug of Diablo II - it pretty much makes untwinked hardcore the feeble dream of a demented basketcase.

???

And Blizzard has made in unambiguously clear that 1.11 was the final patch

In fact, there is no 'final patch' because you always find something to correct, and I want you give me link where Blizzard said something like this...

(only the third patch for LoD in 4 years...

But there are patches...

There has been as many for Civ IV in less than a year)

And how many patches did Blizzard for Diablo II in the first year ?
About 7 no ?
...

and that they have no intention of fixing the bug

what bug?

The 1.11 patch itself, contained little else than some exclusive online overpowered quests and charms.

You mean that D2 patches are small and Civ4 ones are big ?
Maybe D2 is corrected and Civ4 not ?
The fact is that D2 continues to be patched.. Civ4 "we stop to do it".

Single players got next to nothing

?

Because 2k doesn't want to is the basic answer here

If it's 2K's fault, 2K should act as Blizzard, doing patches is better than doing not.

And they have no reason to because people continue to purchase the products they support.

But they don't do patches to correct the last things that need correction.

Anyone heard anything about this in regards to any further patches? Just as confirmation of my kick in the nuts. Did you never hear from them Shigga?

???

Grrrrrr..........Patch?.....NO!!

Patches are something good not something bad.

LOL Danicela, its ok. I was just wanting to know if anything new surfaced recently about this. It is 2K's fault though. Firaxis can't do anything as far as releasing stuff unless 2k says they can I believe.

AFAIK = As far as I know
SMAC = Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

In their minds they still are doing patches. And making people pay for access to them to boot. it is win/win for them.

This is why they won't do it. Why they should or should only applies to us not them. The fact remains they won't.

Yep, and it sucks. But they will not do anything about it unless people stop supporting their practices. Which aleady hasn't been what happened so asking them to do it now is almost pointless because they have no reason to as far as business goes. Give away a patch for free? Or Make people buy the game for the patch? Guess which one they are going to pick, and people have already been buying the game. I am sure it was enough people to have them forget all about us "forgotten".

So confirmation?
Prettyplx? kthnxbye :p

Thanks to generous help of their publishers.

It is old enough.
It's standard in gaming industry to have no more then 4-6 months patch support. Sad, but true.
Civ4 patch support was longer, and is still indirectly supported by Warlords expansion.

They pay the bills, and thus decide is patching feasible or not...

Why ?
Blizzard do patches.
Firaxis doesn't.

Blizzard is also its own publisher, which makes them a company with lots of money.

Personally I would have no problem spending extra $5-$10 dollars for a decent patch support...

I wouldn't pay anything. I payed about $60 for a game that has given me grief the first 4 months I had it, then the company stopped supporting it only a little over 6 months after its release. It was shipped with memory leaks that weren't fixed until 4 months in. There are still some bugs that remain in the game as well but people just "let it slide" as if it is perfectly normal and ok to do so. Most of them are now "minor" but still annoyances and I don't care what anyone says 6 months is not old enough to make it ok to stop supporting a game. If it had been 2 years, then yeah ok I can even go with that but it has been 6 months and we are getting told, "Who cares that you spent $60 bucks on our game. If you still want support you have to pay an additional $30. So $90 bucks for a game that is rather bland in vanilla and not much flavor has been thrown in on Walords from what I can see. I do not own it but I think I have a good view of what is in it now and it isn't enough to make the game worth $90 bucks.

The rest of this is just my general feelings toward the game and its expansion not the quote. Along with some of the other stuff above. I quoted LordRahl because I thought it was a good line that shows someone's willingness to pay for a new patch on vanilla if I am not mistaken. And I believe the reason behind the offer is to hope it might make it worth it's while for the company. It is THIS that makes me ashamed at 2K, having people hoping that giving them even more money might help them achieve incentive to support the game that came out in under the last year. The whole time never hearing word from Firaxis or 2K even acknowledging that anyone is having a problem. All we ever got was 1 email address for everyone and I never heard from them personally. Without the people at this site, I would have never heard word from them if their website didn't change, so I basically would have just been let known of each patch once it was released but no information in regards to when they will get here or anything. No support.

Now I get told I must buy warlords to recieve support. Mostly adding to the scenario part which we all knew about towards the end anyways. I can't stress how much scenarios will not be touched by me. I don't care how good they are, I don't like scenarios that are not in a campaign on games. I would like for Civ to start doing some 5-10 long scenario campaigns but 4 even with warlords doesn't have enough flavor in the game to keep a campaign going for that long, and that is a short campaign really. Average campaigns usually go between 15-30 scenarios but they make an entire game and story out of it. Some hit over 15-30 though but not many. But anyways, I just don't like playing 1 scenario and that is all. I may as well play 1 random game and it will have more variety IMO.Not to mention the fact that I still believe alot of Warlords was the rest of what was going to be in Vanilla.

But can we get a patch in vanilla that at least tones down ICS? Fix some more graphical issues if possible. Technical fixes should be one of the main reasons to support a game. But I do not know any of them. But there is still plenty of things in vanilla that could also be focused on in gameplay with patches. But I have to buy an expansion pack that offers me nothing I can't do by modding my own graphics. Except vassal states that is and I honestly dont care about them. The map is too small I think to involve vassals. Can anyone out there still reading this that knows about vassal states give me their opinion on them?

The really, really short version:

1.)So it is for sure there will be no patch I take it?
2.)Can someone give me their opinion on Vassal States and why? As in please tell what you do like about them, and then a couple things you don't like about them.

Thanks.

I agree with you, i have bought Warlords because i'm a civ addicted so i had to buy the expansion; but i have to say that the policy of payng for having the game patched is really sad.In warlords there have been a lot of improvements to gameplay about combat like nerfing axemen improving chariots, castles , forts now are not totally a waste of money but can serve their purpose in specific tiles, there are other minor improvemnts which make the game better and more balanced. So while it can be sad for customers which bought only civ4 i don't think they will implement these changes in a patch sooner because you have to pay the x pack.
About vassals now they are a bit broken because when other AI declare war on your vassal they don't take in consideration that they will be in war with you so you everytime you take a vassal you don't have a total control over your diplomacy. For the rest the vassal feature is very good you can control what they research they will help you in war, and you can take some of their resources and there are other minor effects. The vassal feature will be really improved in the patch of mid october when devs have said that AI will declare war on your vassal only if wants to enter war also with you.
I have to say anyway that while this XP doesn't add a lot of content, it is not a PTW expansion so if would be less expensive it would be really worthwile.
