English Privateers, sallying from various ports on the English Channel coast, have boarded and taken the Spanish Treasure Galleons
San Christobal and
Santa Maria.
It is rumoured that units of the English Fleet joined in the attack - totally against orders - and dispersed the escorting Spanish warships. Certainly the
Naseby and the
Royal Sovereign are no longer at their moorings, and no one knows if, or when, they might return....
Reports are coming in all the time of hundreds of gold ingots being landed all along the coast.
The English Government totally repudiates the actions of these renegade Englishmen, and has dispatched its agents to retrieve the Spanish bullion. Much has already been secured, and will be handed over to the Spanish Ambassador as soon as possible. The English Ambassador in Madrid has been instructed to re-establish good relations immediately. Courts Martial have been convened to investigate the role of the Royal Navy in this unfortunate incident.
