I have just got a new computer and am still having the same problem I had on my old one which was at the low end of the recommended specs for Civ 4. My new computer should be easily capable of running the game and if I can get it to start, it does run fine with no problems - but mostly it just locks up on the first screen - the one that says "Loading" in several languages. The game is patched to ver 1.52, I have downloaded all Windows updates, updated my graphics drivers and I have tried disabling all startup files without any improvement. There is never any error message - just send a message to Microsoft (which I have done) and I have enabled logging but no log files are created. I have searched through the forums but haven't found anything helpful. I have attached my dxdiag - I am really hoping someone can help (have also emailed tech support but other posts suggest I shouldn't hold my breath....).

That rings alarm bells, it should be in your native language - presumably english for you. Dont have suggestion for it, but it definitely should not be doing that. Given your earlier hassles, and the fact you now have a beastie that should eat it for breakfast, it may be possible you have corrupt files on the install disc.

Its certainly a long shot .... but with your background its worth a specific query about this to Tech Sp. Maybe try another install set if you have a friend locally who has a set

When I launch my game i get a loading screen with the word loading in 6 different languages and have 0 problems with the game so I dont thing thats the problem.

Your system should run the game no probs . The only thing in your dxdiag that I would change is the refresh rate for your monitor. (it should be set at 60hz)

Just got a reply from tech support - suggesting the uninstall, delete files, reinstall, patch routine I am all too familiar with. Tried your suggestion of borrowing another disk - and it plays perfectly every time. Tried mine again, and back to the same problem. Tested both over a couple of days, and it is absolutely consistent - borrowed disk always plays, mine only occassionally. Now it's back to the retailer to get a replacement! Thanks for the suggestion!
