New Game & New Questions...

How about an undefinative one...? :)

Seriously, I've got so little understanding of the trade mechanics that I tend to just ignor it once I've sent out caravans and built superhighways. Once I sent 2 wine caravans to a large, far-off city...the first one got 250 gold, the second got only 67, even though trade advisor showed a demand remained.

Also, I've had cities that show +13 in trade under city info, yet I've never sent a caravan out from them.

Know of any trade threads off hand? Search still doesn't seem to work...

Thanks,

The best ones are over at Apolyton.Net (sorry TF and DoM):

The Apolyton server is a bit problematic. Early morning seems the best.

Sometimes the Trade Advisor and the actual state of the game can be off. After the first delivery click once on the city to see if the demand still exists. Often a delivery will trigger a review of the cities demand list, leading to a change. There is something called the Solo Cycle whereby any city will be auto-reviewed every 16 game turns, in the order in which the cities were founded. You can often find that order by checking the lists for Dye or Copper.

You do not need to send a caravan out from a city to get a trade route: receiving one is sufficient, which is why some players only trade between their own cities. There is a 50% penalty for domestic trade, however. Even so, once the Super Science/Trade City is up over 100 trade arrows putting all the domestic routes to it still pays pretty well. In my current game I topped out at 217 trade arrows in my SSC. This is probably because I had an "optimum" RR link with a nearby Carthage. Each route was +37!
