new game .. twice returned ... no map?

here is a good one....
taken the game back already and got a new one ...
got the patch ... still cant see a map ... screen mainly black.
can see all the overlays ... mountains, trees, etc ... but no water or grass ... very confusing ... got the recomended requirements but cant figure this out.
still playing civ3 because the christmas gift dont work !

This sounds like the old black terrain bug, but I thought this was fixed with patch 1.09? It would help to know your system specs. Have you tried switching to low res textures?

Yes, I believe you need to get the latest patch (or at least 1.09) and this problem should go away. Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and the latest service pack for windows.
