New Game

but i d loose somthing, so, if u explain me how to do, i m k to join if u search players. Newbie here of course ...

So I adapted our test game:
It is a HotSeat game now, everybody has the mapmaking to be able to exchange maps, 2 other techs, money and four new warriors (2 of them close to cities of opponents). The diplomacy can start.

I suppose we will do the contact by e-mail (?)

Since there may be some events (for example new tech, famine...) at beginning of the turns, we must save the game at ends of turns. So my instructions for a hotseat game were wrong and I have to change them:

Start the civ2.exe, load any (singleplayer) game and drag the Civ2 window down, so that you see just the blue system bar (I have a text "Civilization II Multiplayer Gold" on it) and so you don't see the map, press Ctrl-Q, say Yes: You are in the main menu.
Choose Multiplayer game/Hotseat etc. You get the message like "Lenin, you may now command the Greeks", where Lenin is your predecessor. Press Enter to close the message, press Enter again to finish the turn of your predecessor. Then play your turn, press Ctrl-N if needed (if some activated unit is left), save the game, press Ctrl-H (it replaces the Ctrl-Q hotkey in hotseat mode) to finish the game.

:) what does hotseat mean? :)... or, what's makes it different (hotseat?) to the game we played before?... also, what civ's does everyone get?...
mignonne

k thank to play with newbies, i load the test game and try my way before real game.

Mignonne, hotseat means Hot Seat :)
It is a multiplayer game on one computer and one seat ;) . First player sits down to the seat, plays his turn, vacates the seat. Then second player sits down, plays his turn, vacates the seat and so on.

Darius,
does the unit gift works really the same manner as I observed, i. e. the unit is conveyed from a donor's city to the donee's city?
You know, this would bring another trick/cheat: in some situations you could transport your units through long distances by gifting them and taking back.

how to u attach files on forum ?
There is an "Attach file" section on every "Post reply" page.

About the cheat mode: the reason I want to take it into account is that I don't want that the diplomacy would depend on the "temper" of the foreign advisor (F3 key}. I want to be sure that we will be able to trade our resources whenever we will want.
So my proposition is: Players are allowed to use the cheat mode only if the F3 key don't works. And then the trade must proceed the same way as it would via the F3 key, in other words the player who initiated the trade don't get his "goods" immediately but in the turn of his ally.

Wont you be unable to do online diplomacy in a .hot file?

A .net file can be hosted as a normal multiplayer game for city transactions, etc...

That's what I would say, but ST insists that we use cheat menu diplomacy and no realtime diplomacy.

i vote for realtime diplomacy too, darius... as far as i understood all technical details tho... can we start playing soon now?... pleeeazze?...

:) Mignonne, I see you really want it...
Monoceros told me that he has spoken with you. I know he would like to play also an online multiplayer, maybe you could finish couple of games before we will start our PBEM ;)

The online diplomacy is terrible for me, I am sure I want to avoid it:
Without the online diplomacy you can connect to the net once per day, play and send the game. Otherwise you must agree with another player on exact time of the online play, then you have to hold that time... i.e. you must be be connected to the Internet a large part of the day. Moreover we are in different time zones.

Who wants to play at this moment? Only Mignonne, Darius and me?

:) slowthinker...

i think to understand now (a little bit at least) and kinda hear what u re trying to tell us... well, im open for anything... from my part, i just would like start playing...
a fact is that menocerus wants to play with us... i will ask one more time to make sure and also let menocerus know to at least post the intentions in here, ok?... so, we would be four "fanaticos" being part of this game afterall...

:) mignonne :)

ST, as I said earlier I want to play :) It's ok for me to play Hotseat or whatever, you just have to tell how to do it. I agree with you about the online diplomacy, there's no sense in it when we are playing pbem. Let's start a game with one of the mp game alternatives (this Hotseat, maybe...) and we'll see how it goes. Next time we can try with another one. Ok?

I suggest to try a couple of turns in our test game: Load the game attached Jun 01, 2002 02:03 AM and follow my instructions. (It is Darius' turn, but I think we can try two parallel games: in one game Darius can continue his position, in second you can take his civ.)

And I would like to forbid the tech giving/trading:
Reasons:
1) It makes alliances too powerfull.
2) It causes that you are definitely out of the game if you get weak once and have no advances to trade. Strong civs trade their techs and become stronger and stronger and you have no chance to catch up with others.
