Well.. My Graphic card is dead... almost...

I'm on for a new one but its a big mess out there to find out the one I need.

I do not play many games oustside from strategy games so I dont know what to priorize??

In fact .. do I really need a 2Gig video card or should I choose 1Gig with a faster clock?

There are so many cards I just dont know what to choose and I have only a 100$ budget.

Any opinions? My old card was a Geforce Gt-620 2Gig... but the performance were really bad... I hope I'll get something better !!

Thx for any help

Here are 3 choices I looked...

Fun fact: Civ is more stressful on your GPU than most action games.

The factors in choosing a card are.. complicated. Besides clock speed and VRAM size, you need to consider VRAM speed, # of shader cores, and more.

Honestly, the cards you selected aren't going to get you $100 worth of performance. At your budget, I'd seriously consider picking up a slightly used specimen of a year or two old fantastic card on eBay, where the seller has upgraded to this year's model. For example, the Nvidia 660 ti is a fantastic mid-high level card from 2012 which can still give high or better graphics in Civ, and can be found for $50-100 second hand. The amount of VRAM you need depends primarily on your resolution, but generally speaking 2 GB is the sweet spot for most configurations.

If you could swing it a 660ti or a 760 would be great values. I know that there are 760s available for $150 now and I expect them to come further down in price when 960s are released.

First I want to thank you guys...

Well... I've done my homework on my side too and from what I read a 1G video card with a PCI 3.0 and DDR5 (128bits) is 6 times faster than a 2G with PCI 2.0 and DDR3 (64 bits).

From what is said on most gaming forums 2G is not very important unless you run many monitors. I only have one so... I just hope I haven't made a bad choice after all.

Finally I've gone for this : (I invested a bit more)

So Staples.ca doesn't let you do anything unless you put in your Canadian postal code..

But I'm familiar with the 650, and it's a pretty good choice if you don't consider the secondary market an option. Assuming you're running at full HD (1920x1080) or less, 1GB VRAM shouldn't pose much of a bottleneck, and you're absolutely right about the difference between GDDR5 and GDDR3.

Happy gaming!

You could pick up a R9 290 which would give you all the performance you require.
