Too easy- Assasination of Arch Duke Ferdinand of Austria by some member- can't remember the name- of the Black Hand, a terrorists/freedom fighter group in Serbia.
Emperor Wudi ruled the Han dynasty. I don't remember the exact dates, but it was about a 15 year reign around 210 BC. Am I close at least?
President McKinley was assassinated by Leon Colcycz, who claimed he was inspired to assasinate the president after hearing a speech. Who delivered this speech?
Just a confirmation, yup. Though the date's earlier by more than a century. In 210 BC, the first empire just got established - the Qin. After they fell, the Han spent the first few decades building up their strength and appeasing the nomads before going on the offensive during Han Wudi's reign.
Sidenote - main reason the Han penetrated into the far west - to get the fabled 'blood-sweating' horses of Ferghana for their use in the army (for deployment against the Xiongnu). The Wudi emperor was extremely interested in them, after hearing report fr an envoy who spent decades going there and returning (and captured twice by the Xiongnu during the process).
George washington started the war when his small force attacked and defeaed a reconnaissance party of French and Indians near Fort Duquesne. He was then forced to withdraw and was surronded and captured at fort Necessity
