A new article is up at IGN...going to speed read it now.

    No new screenshots :(

A quick speed read revealed only one nugget:
You can use a promotion opportunity to fully heal a unit instead.

There are probably more buried in there.

Actually, despite the dating, that's not a new article, I believe. I think it's an older email exchange republished now.

Big indication is a lack of specifics, and in particular, JS says Mounted units will have 4 movement. But clearly in the new demo, we see Cavalry with 3 movement... I think they've altered the game since he gave these comments.

Wasn't this included in Civ IV promotions? Heavier emphasis on Unit Health then?

Civ4 promotion gave healing of half the difference between current health and full health.

"You can use a promotion opportunity to fully heal a unit instead."
says it gives Full health, but that you get this *instead* of getting the promotion.

Possible... or there are both light and heavy cavalry, of which curaisser-type cav are the latter? (Oh please oh please)

The key word here is "instead". In Civ 4, promotions automatically healed the unit. If the interview is correct, then in Civ 5, the player must choose either to promote for long term gain or for an instant heal for the short term benefit. Seems reasonable to me.

    Edit: Ninja'd

No, he is right. In Civ4 promotions didn't heal fully, here as i understand it it will heal fully the unit.

    • City states have to grant all their resources to their allies (important with the limited resources i guess)
    • City states have to help their allies in a war
    • Better diplomacy
    • Standard infantry 2 moves, mounted units 4 moves
    • Promotions are closer tied to the units
    • Promotions will allow a unit to heal completly
    • Again confirmed: A unit can move through an occupied tile, if it doesn't stop in there

Everything else has already been said in the gamespot article (or i overlooked something).

Makes sense. So probably only melee and cavalry can get Shock promotions, and so forth.
