New Mod: The Great Land

You can't do many of the wonder effects you say.

You can't do many of the wonder effects you say.

Most of them are possible, a few of them may not be. I've seen some creative solutions on this board to limitations of the game mechanics, so I'm hoping that someone reading this may come up with a work-around. I could always just fall back on the standard bonuses that characterize most of the regular wonders, but I'm aiming for effects that are unique to the mod.

Cool looking mod Andrew,
I hope u don't mind me taking some info for my native american mods.

I'm from Canada so it's nice to see someone else who has a lot of northern history knowledge.
I've been having a lot of trouble finding info on the Aleut tribe.

Sure, no problem -- glad to help if you need any other info. What other tribes are you looking at?

I am going to bump this thread, since Goldfool is looking for ideas for tundra terrain, and it is the sort of really different mod that appeals to me.

AndrewG, I will do a print out of your ideas and then makes some recommendations to you of things and people that you can add to the mod.

One additional American military leader you can add is this quite, unassuming individual by the name of H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who was the effective commander of the 172nd Infantry Brigade while I was there, with the Army commander in Alaska being Mark Boatner. Also, as an historical aside, the Simon Bolivar Buckner you have in the American military leaders list was the son of the Simon Bolivar Buckner that surrendered Fort Donelson to Ulysses S. Grant, and who was one of Grant's last visitors prior to Grant's death from cancer.

I should be able to help you some with Inupiat leaders, along with wonders. Also, you need to make Whales available in the coast tiles as well, since you have the beluga coming up into the Cook Inlet and the coastal areas along the Arctic Ocean.

I like your idea of the Temperate Rain Forest, as that is what the Panhandle actually is. I will see if I can come up with anything to replace Rubber, since that is the real odd resource out in the strategic resource list. You might want to keep Fruit in with all of the wild berries though.

I am a military historian, so if you want help with your Forgotten War scenario, I can help a bit there, and also one of my other areas of interest is Arctic and Antarctic exploration, so I should be able to help you there as well.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions! I'll add Schwartzkopf to the list of military leaders. Naturally there's lots to choose from, with the military's prominent presence up here.

I'd actually like to do a whole Alaska terrain pack, picking and choosing from some of the terrain others have posted here. Darker water, more rugged mountains, etc. I've done a chart of the terrain equivalents -- I'll post soon. Good idea also about including whales in the coastal tiles, and I like the idea of keeping fruit as a resource -- I can replace the banana icon with a salmonberry or blueberry bush.

I'm getting back to this mod after about a year of neglect. I downloaded Poser when they had that special offer, but unfortunately it's beyond me and my outdated computer. So...if anyone wants to help with the graphics, send me a message!

Andrew, you may find some of what you need Terrain-wise in my Old West Map files (in my sig, below). I modded out some Forests for the northwest, mostly douglas firs, but there are also some lodgepole pine and other northern pine species in there. All in the Grassland forests file. In a few weeks, I'll have an update to that file that includes interface graphics, popheads and some initial buildings graphics. Then I'll probably have to upgrade that to mod-in-progress status and move it to a more appropriate forum...

Keep an eye on that project, and I'll keep an eye on yours, as there is the distinct possibility of cross-use for graphics between them (and the Steampunk Mod too, for that matter)...
