New modder difficulty with new civ

I've been trying to create a basic American Civil War mod but I'm stuck at simply trying to create a United States (Union) civilization. All I've done is take the American empire xml and change the name, description etc, and then copy in all of the xml stuff like city names and free units and buildings, so very little has changed. My mod shows up in the browser, but the United States is not an option on the civ list. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious. Any help would be great

Go to your config.ini file and set LoggingEnabled to 1. Then try to run your mod. If it doesn't work, look in the Database log file and see if there are any errors that tell you what went wrong. This makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot. If you see something you don't understand and you think is relevant, post it.
