This was brought up in the Steam/GOG announcement thread, but it definitely deserves its own thread. There's a new nation coming to Old World!

Guesses on when it will drop? One of the comments on twitter mentioned Friday!

Thoughts on who the new nation might be? I know it's a little more mythological, but I'm hoping for a Gilgamesh led Sumeria.

Is there a way to have duplicate nations in multiplayer? Might be fun to have a goofy game after the new nation drops, with everyone playing the same leader.

Tough to call, really! I'm not sure how limited the scope of Old World is, geographically speaking, but I think it's fair to say the new nation will be from the Mediterranean region. Nubia/Meroe would be fun additions, though possibly too similar to Egypt. Could Phoenicia stand on its own next to Carthage? It is mentioned in the Carthage campaign, I believe.

Kind regards,
Ita Bear

MP has three nation modes:
- All players unique (max 7 players obviously)
- All team members unique (so could have same nation in different teams)
- Free for all, everyone could be the same

If we dismiss civs that are kinda-sorta-already in game like Parthia or Medes (Persia), Macedonia (Greece), Phoenicians (Carthage), Byzantine Empire (Rome) and all the tribes, whats left from approximately same region/period?

* Sumeria
* Kingdom of Israel
* India - further away but close enough for Alexander to reach :)
* Kingdom of Armenia maybe?

And of course it can always be a different region. Khmer, China, Vietnam. Or even America - Olmecs, Zapotecs.

My bet is on India unless it's gonna be the new-region themed expansion, i.e. Eastern Asia.

The Sea people! Could be interesting to have a civ that plays more like barbarians.

Assuming it won’t be a culture already represented by tribes, I think it’d be Nubia, Sumer, the Hittites or Akkad.

I’d be really happy with any of them to be honest!

The bow and arrow emoji in the Twitter post has me leaning towards Nubia…

Isn't it rather frustrating knowing the developers are probably watching these threads and enjoying our theorycrafting? Come on @Dale, throw us a bone. What's the first letter? :D

Kind regards,

@Solver 's "Nope" is 4 letters long. Which other nation is 4 letters long? Rome.

Britain is the furthest north the Romans ever conquered.

There's a false stereotype that Britons have bad teeth. The smiley @Solver used also has bad teeth.

Video games typically represent Britons as an archer civilization, much like the twitter post emoji.

What else is 4 letters long? Celt and Brit!

Thank you, @Solver , for confirming the new nation:

I'll give you some hints:
  • One of the unique units will be Casuariidae Rider.
  • The Founder is Arthur Phillip, and the first Leader is Edmund Barton.
  • The Wonder will be Kata Tjuta.
  • Nation trait is "It's friggen huge" - foreign units have a 50% chance of just getting lost in the desert.

Australia, eh? Is it April 1?

No, it's the price they pay for hiring an Aussie.

Will all the units and character portraits be up-side down?

:lol: yeah, and as the earth was flat at the time, also the graphics to get there will be interesting, I think you go to the Atlantic Ocean and then you fall a big cascade or something like that?

have we heard a date when we would learn this fascinating detail?

We haven't said anything in that regard, no. :)

Though I'll happily give you a date for when you can ask me again though. :D
