The new patch was originally described as being not compatable w/ win2k/XP (as of 7Dec01). I just noticed today that a new version of the patch is up to correct an exe problem, but there is NO disclaimer regarding win2k/XP compadability.... is this now compatable or not????? At the very least PLEASE get some kind of notice on the civ3.com page!

I'm told that some are using the patch and XP with no problems. However, that has not been my experience. I downloaded the 1.16f patch and could not get the game to load in - period. I reinstalled to the original 1.07f and it works again.

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having trouble getting the game to run after installing the supposedly "fixed for WinXP" iteration of the patch (as opposed to the first one released.) Same here, I have to uninstall everything and then reinstall minus the patch to get the game up and running again.

Funny thing is, I occasionally had problems with the game not wanting to launch before I put the patch on, sometimes having to re-autorun the CD to get the game to launch more than once on a single boot. That had me worried that maybe I was the only one having trouble with the patch, since it was doing the same thing (except with the patch it doesn't run at all - ever.)

I had what sounds like exactly the same problem with my copy before the patch and now. Most times it loads in (after about 4-5 minutes of cd spin-o-rama) but sometimes it says I don't have the right cd or some other more generic message.

I checked the main thread in this forum from sk0tie and it seems that I am suffering from a copy protection malfunction.

Same thing here.If I install the patch, I can no longer play civ 3.It just wont start. Thats on a XP machine. Uninstall the whole deal, then Reinstall, then the original civ 3 unpatched runs fine.

All of us who have been suffering patch problems should check out the thread titled "Windows XP and v1.16f - WORKING!" if you haven't already.

From the descriptions of your problems, it could be your ticket to running Civ 3 with the patch...

I needed 1.16f in order to get Civ3 to run on XP Pro.

I have to use the Refresh= command in the Civilization3.Ini file and the Refresh command is new for version 1.16f. I also do NOT have any compatability settings on.

Kingpin is right when he said go back and read "Windows XP and v1.16f - WORKING!"
