OK I just fired up Steam and it was downloading an update, but I thought it already downloaded the first patch. Can anyone confirm if a second patch was released and give some patch notes or did I just miss the first patch?

Sid Meier's Civilization V Update Released
Product Update - Valve 14:08
Updates to Sid Meier's Civilization V have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Modding - Installer and permissions fixes. Should address any
remaining mod download and install issues.
Full screen crash fix. Game will now restart in Windowed mode if
it cannot find a suitable full-screen resolution on first start.
Hall of Fame now records data correctly when using a Windows
username with special characters.
Fix for Puppet State production exploit.
Misc crash fixes.

Thanks

Hopefully they fixed the bug where puppets build military buildings too.

Its just garbage bumbs units out of territory on declaration. Oldschool but so unrealistic.
Puppets states once again are not viable and just as broken as before. + razing is back
in style.
They didnt fix them at all they just eat your treasury.
I still cant dow on glitched civillizations.
Still cant use strategic view without crashing.

This patch at least fixed 1 crashing save for me.

Why is this update 2556.5 MB? With my slow New Zealand internet connection, this means I won't be able to play the game again for at least 2 weeks.

Is there anything at all that I can do to be able to play the game?

It shouldn't be that big as it's just a very small patch.. I don't know what bug you are experiencing atm because the patch was around 25Mb for me NOT 2556Mb

It turns out that steam can't "find" the civ 5 files, and so is trying to download the game. People have been experiencing this bug for many steam games, so it looks like I just have to reinstall the game.

Guess I'll finish killing off the English tomorrow.

Really great they still didn't fix the mod installation issues......... :D

This might seem like a dumb question, but how do you update the game via Steam?

If it's automatic, I haven't noticed any dialogue boxes showing that it's been updating/ed...

Sometimes it will update automatically, it depends on the type of update. As stated in the above you have to restart your steam client in order to get the update. So right click on your Steam icon, exit it then start Steam up again. Your update will start.:goodjob:

How do I check if the update has been applied? Steam doesn't seem too user friendly. I find it hard to find stuff like that..

Once you restart steam there are several ways. Look at the steam icon in the lower right corner and it will show the Valve with a ----- on it. That means it's downloaded something. Also if you are in your games window you will see Civ 5 being updated. It's a small patch so it shouldn't take it but a few seconds, a minute at the most.
