Hey, ive played the trial version many times (not that you can get a whole lot done in 60 minutes, and i dunno if there is a demo) and finally just ordered the game from amazon (no stores in my area carried it, just conquests) and i was just wondering:

What do true fans of the game really think about it?

(I know I love it and im sure you do to...or else you wouldn't be playing it )

Eh, it's okay. Pales in comparison to say Sim City 2000.

As a game, it is an excellent game, with many different elements to master.

Combine it with CFC, and it positively becomes an obsession. Run while you still can!

well once i get my game i will get the expansion quickly.... like i always do

i really enjoy it, its very interesting in my point of view and i think its got a good turn-based system (although it might be a little bit lengthy sometimes)

Rather addictive it's Ok...but if you play it too much it gets really boring...just do all the same things on and on again...

that's true, but still.. somerthing always draws you back to the game... and the game is never the same... somehow.. at least for me

The way the game gets boring is if you try to win the same way everytime. The game allows different methods for winning. I used to get bored as a "builder" type, but after finding this board I realized that there are many different ways to win. Trying different styles of play has made this game fun again.

A guy comes to a site called Civ Fanatics and asks if anyone likes the game. Most of us are obsessed with it. For those of you that are bored with it, you should try some of the variants out there. Head over to the Succession Games page if you don't know what I'm talking about.

And one of the most wonderful things about this site is any time I get bored with the game, I can hop over and d/l a new mod. Scan through the Completed Modpacks to see some amazing work by dedicated Civers.

i dont understand why u are posting here then. This guy obviously loves the trial as he says he has played it numerous times, so he is asking what us fans of the game think of it, u obviously dont like the game so why write a post about it? i dunno dosent make sense to me. Well the game is great and the good thing about it is that after a few months of playing regular games, ur bordem will vanish as u begin to play the conquests. By the time those are completed, u will be ready to build ur sill level and venture into harder difficulties.

Demon Axe - This is a great game. Go to some of the parts of this site where people are not only playing the game, but developing new strategies, developing new mods, and exploring new variants.

He said "most", not "all". For a guy who thinks CivIII is merely, "okay", I'm somewhat bemused to notice that you have over 10k posts. I'd hate to see what your post count is for a game you actually like.

But... to answer the original question: Civ III is a really fun strategy game. If you become bored with it, it's most likely due to the fact that you're playing the same strat, same difficulty, same map settings all the time.

You probably want the PTW, Gold, or Conquest flavors. A certain online auction site has some for sale, probably cheaper than amazon.

Edit: I take that back. For a few dollars more just go to Walmart and get it now.

the one i got from amazon is just civ III, for 9.97 (15.00 with shipping) I was gunna get the gold version but decided i would just get the original andf then get conquests (since conqusts includes PTW)
