When are they bringing out the above as a new Steam achievement? I've beaten that in the last week alone...

It doesn't surprise me, there are so many bugs in multiplayer I spent 8 hours trying to play it today and didn't make it past turn 66! It's like Windows 2000 all over again...

Its pretty bad for LAN too (at least for me)

Thats an insult to Windows 2000 :p

I thought by "spam thread" he meant "it's such a widespread issue a dozen people have posted here about it already".

No point putting it in technical support because it's not a technical problem my end. It's just a game with bugged multiplayer ;)

"Civ5 - Technical Support - Seek help from others for all your technical support issues." It's not "my" technical support issue or an issue that forum users can help each other with - most people have the same problems. Firaxis just need to fix their game!

You do realize that a large part of the purpose of the technical support forum is to report bugs, try and isolate them to hardware/connection issues/etc so they can be constructively analyzed and fixed? As opposed to posting some empty complaint thread with no purpose but to spam complaints with no constructive goal whatsoever...

My very first post in this forum, if I can remember correctly, was because I was having significant connection and stability issues in multiplayer in Civilization IV. The tech support forum was actually quite helpful at the time, and go figure, a lot of those connection issues were fixed in upcoming patches. Since the devs DO pay direct attention to this forum, as has been proven time and again, constructive identification and voicing of issues is actually a very helpful exercise for the future of the game.

So I guess the question is... Are you interested in possibly getting your issue recognized by the developers and fixed, or starting the umpteenth million thread complaining for the sake of complaining?

:yup: that's right.

But this thread still doesn't really have anything to discuss, so i suggest you get some discussion going on by suggesting something, or the thread will probably somewhen soon get closed.

:yup: that's right.

Is it? He says:

"It's not "my" technical support issue or an issue that forum users can help each other with - most people have the same problems."

But if you take a look at a thread like the below listed one about crashes...

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=411377

You'll see a lot of discussion about hardware configs that are more prone to crashing, the limits of certain hardware configs relative to map size and civ number, all of which could be helpful to someone suffering crashing problems.

Or, look at this from that very thread:

"Take2 Support had me Verify the Game software through the Steam client and if found a faulty game file and replaced it.
Since that fix, this weekend, I haven't had a crash, but I will continue playing and hope that this fixes it long term."

....

"I have had the problem when I save and load multiple times, and also recently when I never turned off the game just kept it running 24/7 and came back and continued playing.

Out of all of the times that I have played, and it has been a lot, I have only gotten to win 5 times before the game crashed, and even with those, if I kept going a few more turns, it would still crash.

Also, I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and with dx11."

....

"I am running Win 7 - 64 bit.
I am just checking back, and although I am still avoiding the Large and Huge Maps, with the Standard map, after Verifying and fixing the files through Steam, the Game seems to have been fixed. No more crash problems. I am curious when the next "fix" will be distributed, and then I will try the Large and Huge maps and see if they are fixed as well."

All from user Alliton. Sounds like he had a crashing problem and, go figure, it was fixed. For me, crashes all but disappeared after the last patch. Got to ask, are you really sure his statement is correct that there's nothing that forum could help him with? Has he actually checked the forum, or did he come straight here to make a little joke about how bad Civ's crashes are?

Okay, that's an argument.

So, Deathwing, can you give us some informations about your technical setup?

One question, because it has been mentioned in the other threads, is, if the crashes appeared during the autosaves.

Another one, which has been mentioned elsewhere: Was there some co-occurrence with popup windows from steam advertisement or software updates? They also might bring the game to crash (unconfirmed yet).

Well, issues only ever happen in multiplayer. Singleplayer plays fine. Issues also only happen in Civilization 5. All other games run fine.

I spent 8 hours on it yesterday and these are the errors I received:

*Entered some lobbies but could not click to go green (same as some others)
*Hosted some lobbies and some people could not click to go green
*Entered some lobbies and host could not see my text (but everyone else could)
*Tried joining some lobbies but got "multiplayer error"
*Played some games that froze for everyone on turn 1 (we could still talk but not move units)
*Played some games where it brought up the game load screen part-way through a game (e.g. turn 57 it brought up Washington or whoever I was playing as and "loading", then carried on playing normally another 10 turns till it crashed)
*Played some games that froze around turn 50-60 (we could still talk but not move units)
*Played some games that crashed around turn 50-60 (could not talk or scroll on the screen and after waiting 10 minutes with no change I closed Civ via Ctrl+Alt+Del). On the last one it happened when I tried to add a settler to the queue in my capital behind a catapult during the turn change - no idea if that caused it but that was what I was doing at the time. According to 2 Steam friends the game crashed for them as well, not just me.

Didn't manage a single full game in all that time, so perhaps you can understand the frustration! As for system specs it's probably easiest if I post my DxDiag? (attached)

There were no Steam (or other) popups at the time. I don't know if crash occurred during an autosave; the last crash was on turn 66 and my autosave is every 2 turns. I did not otherwise save or load the game (it was multiplayer) and had only been trying to play for 8 hours (that was more than enough) with errors in every game.

I had tried restarting Steam, restarting Civ 5, and rebooting, at various stages through the 8 hours. I was running the DX11 version of Civ 5, trying small and standard size maps, random leader.

I think I ran Steam validate (Right-click game, Properties, Local Files, Validate Game Cache). It found 1 bad file it wants to reacquire. However it doesn't reacquire the file, how do I make it do this? Thought about deleting the Civ game content and re-acquiring the lot from Steam but would at least like to keep the Hall of Fame first...

@ the file validation: Try to do that with admin rights, might help.

Your system itself looks fine, so it's probably not the cause.
Also that the problems are so diverse makes a diagnosis impossible. At least we can say that we tried it :/.

I have admin rights so it should have fixed but did not.

Anyone know how to "reacquire" the bad file otherwise I will try and find Hall of Fame tomorrow, save that, then delete Civ and reinstall...

Okay tried "delete local content" then re-downloaded it, ran validate and it found "1 bad file" to be "reacquired" again! That didn't seem to do anything, help!
