The purpose of this is to throw out some strategies i have not read to much about that i have experimented with for the sake of
doing something new while still aiming for victory-many of these are used in mp
1. Never build on the coast. Sentries only. You can see ships coming and prepare anywhere. Unless ur playing the Scandanavians in which only build on coast.
2. Conscript, invade. Conscript from every city, invade with these conscripts and switch to anarchy. Sounds terrrible doesn't it? Won emperor games behind in pnts with this.
3. Psych out players in mp via chat. If u have a basic understanding of psychology u can read someone's choice of
a handle-(ie. Defender2 -simple example) and adjust your
play...the sentences typed, the frequency, the words used-should all give u clues as to the nature of ur opponents, and knowing this one can ally, attack, ect. with a sense of what to expect....on the flip side, one can be tricky here as well-using a deceptive handle like the vikings calling iceland "iceland when it was nice and greenl;and "greenland " when it was icey...., but even that would show through as someone who is "tricky" now that i think about it , i might enter a game under the assumption that i am a "newbie" and entice someone into an ill fated attack....
4. No sword early on. Horse only. Hard to take cities this way but can stop expansion and serve as great sentry force when coupled with defenders. This will allow time for a truly threatening stack of sword or medevil to be built if u want to attack.
5. Defensive UU's invade. Offensive UU's counterattack. Happens all the time in mp. This one is for newbies really.
Surprise is the key in mp elimination games. While someone is focused on ur unerving defensive UU's you land as many here and there as possible, then the real force with attackers in the stack invades, counters and tries for the weakest city.
6. Chaos theory. throw all plans to the wind, and play in a manner that "confuses" the opponent- meaning his linear approach is disrupted- good players know how to defend and attack and expand and ally ect. they won't be fooled by tricks,
but random movement, non attacks, ships with no troops...
will have them wondering what u really have up ur sleeve, if the
real answer is "nothing" they have invested time and effort and scrutiney..energy , over ...nothing...and you, have expended little cause, its the chaos theory, it doesn't matter what u do, have fun.
7. Just wanted a seven so i'll make one up, lets see, how about
build only defensive or only offensive units. Might make u think a little harder to compensate, and thinking a little harder might be the edge needed....
