New to forums. help! Civ is lagging

i've always loved the civilization series and up till today i've been playing civ IV but today i picked up civ 5. the game runs a little laggy on my PC because i have most everything on a low setting. i don't know much about computers but if i were to upgrade my graphics card would that help with the lagging?

what kind of computer do you have?
are you running in dx9 or dx 10/11 mode?
what kind of processor / graphics card do you have?

As mentioned, your system specifics would be helpful in order to figure out exactly what's going on.

Civilization 5 is not very well optimized and a bit of a system requirement hog unfortunately.
