New Tournament Proposal !!!!!!!

What do you think of the following proposal and the
development of an entire new level called Super Deity?

Comments and Suggestion welcomed

We currently have the following:

HOF - Good Fun, but its a test of endurance

GOTM - Excellent Fun, but still a test of endurance
for competition

Tourn - Ranks players to how fast they win. Interesting,
but being an ex-competitive chess player some of best
chess players I know had a defensive playing style, but were
no way less skillful.

Ranking System Proposed - Win or Lose (That simple)

Tournament Proposal

A 5 game tournament, which will only test pure skill.

Game 1 : Regent
Game 2 : Monarch
Game 3: Emporer
Game 4: Deity
Game 5: Super Deity

The tournament ranking would be based on the number
of wins.


Players will not have to be concerned about milking or how fast they have to win as both of these are irrelevent in this proposal.

My friend and I, have already done alot a research into Super
Deity, with various testing and if support is here from the
forum, we will share our final model for a tournament.

The model suggested for Super Deity, which will make
it more balance, more fun, and harder to win are as follows:

Proposed AI Super Deity Model

Expansion Rate: Between Emp and Deity,
Production Rate: Faster than Deity.
Tech Rate: Between Emporer and Deity

Our test so far are very promising in terms of difficulty and balance
but we are still in the testing phase. And this super deity level
will certainly sort the top players out.

Just curious to see the mechanics and what it makes different from the Tournament. The scoring system in the Tournament has been discussed extensively with skill of play as the main ratio in mind. I would suggest a different name as well because there is already a competition called Tournament going on.

I think I will call it the Super Deity Challenge ?

There is no scoring system, you either win or lose. The winner/winners are those who win 5 straight.

Its very different from the tournament, the final game is a new
level. It produces units faster, making a domination victory much
more difficult:) A real test of skill.

The Tournament already in place is great, but it penalizes those
with a more defensive style of play, something unheard in chess.

Yes, I think the Super Deity Challenge is a good name.

Um, did I respond to this thread? :confused: :crazyeye: :p .

Ok, I know you made a mistake. But what I am wondering is why even bother with the first few games. Anyone skilled enough to beat this 'super deity' challenge will have absolutely no problem with Regent or Monarch. Making a more challenging level does sound like it could be fun though, for those deity players. :hammer:

The lower levels are to encourage players to participate.
Sure you could have a tournament based on the best of 3
at the super deity level, but that would exclude alot of people from entering the competition.

Dont give me hassel ChickinSht I failed english at high school
and had to take another exam before university :( :(
 
What if you had all of the winners of the Super Diety challenge play until all but one of them lost a game? This person would be the winner.

I would join, but Monarch still challenges me. :(

Here are our first initial expansion rate tests results:

Production up by 25%. It takes 10 sheilds at SDeity to produce one spearmen instead of 12, making it a tougher conquest opponent.

I slowed down the Initial expansion rate slightly as suggest by my proposal. (Deity 35 cities at 1000BC) compared to (Super Deity 34).

Suggestions from emp & deity players welcomed.
 
Deity is challenging enough without me trying to play on a "super deity" level, so I'll pass on the new tournament. :)

But remember that difficulty is influenced by a lot more than just the percentage rate in the editor. If I wanted to make the game significantly harder than Deity, I would change the percentage rate to 50% as you suggested and give the AI an extra settler to start the game. Those two changes would make the game nearly impossible for a human, though with skill and luck it could still be done. The extra settler is what makes Deity so much more difficult than Emperor, and adding another would significantly increase the difficulty of "Super Deity." But if you play this way, you probably enjoy punishing yourself - the AI will be launching spaceships in 900AD on these settings! :crazyeye:
 
Sulla - That wasnt the final model, only one of the adjustments, for a expansion test. The game will only be marginally tougher than deity, but it will hopefully be more balanced. The Ai will not be launching spaceships in 900AD.

My objective is to make a level more balanced & fun & harder for domination wins.
