I know that Kobold is some sort of fantasy creature (but I don't know what it looks like).

All I think I know is that those two have nothing in common....
Nope, wrong. :D
German miners thought that Kobalt was a small mountain troll/gnome/thingy that ruined the ore, turning it into (...wait for it... :mischief: ) Cobalt! :)
IIRC Nickel was also a troll/gnome/thingy.

But I have no idea what the fantasyheads like tjedge1 means by it...

Kobolds are in the Warhammer mythology too. But they're basically no different from goblins.

Looking at the picture, the mechanism looks a lot like that of the chu-ko-nu, but scaled up and more elaborate. Can I use this for East Asian civs and call it "Repeater Bolt Thrower"? :)

Oh and BTW I like Warhammer too. Although so far all I've bought are the army books. (No space at home for models...:( )

The thing you mentioned about miners is how fantasy in the first place got influenced by goblins/kobolds/gnomes.

As many have noticed there always seems to be some kind of dwarven race of miners who have trouble with some other underground race.

About Elven Bolt Thrower...

Just wonderful unit!
Would really like to see warrior made of that soldier behind that thrower because his armor looks fantastic or is it already done?

I don't post a lot, even though I do visit this site often. I must say, this is easily the best looking unit I personally have seen here, but it is followed closely behind by some very good units, one including the "Drilla-Killa" since I laugh everytime I see its attack.

Thanks, and keep it up,

Sorry for the late response to this. They are slightly different than goblins in D&D, for starters they are smarter, trickier and more organized. And reptilian.
Here's a pic and a description of them that was posted where I found this.

Hate and Spite

Kobolds are a common sight in many campaign worlds; deemed by most adventurers to be a minor nuisance at best. Certainly, most experienced adventurers would question the need to study kobolds in any great depth, but then, few have faced the full might of a kobold clan and lived long enough to warn others of the peril they offer. The Slayer's Guide to Kobolds offers insight to all adventurers in the culture and society of this vicious race, enabling them to track down, engage and wipe out dozens of these murderous beasts. It can only be hoped that such efforts will be enough to stall and drive back a race that is, almost literally, numberless.

No race in any campaign world, however, exists solely to provide cannon fodder for allegedly heroic aventurers. The Slayer's Guide to Kobolds redresses this imbalance by giving Games Masters the information they need to make kobolds a solid and coherent part of their campaign. No longer will players merely scoff and draw their swords when they meet a group of kobolds within some ancient ruin. Finally, kobolds will have the respect they have always deserved.

They're reptilian?! I always thought they were small humanoid wolves! :D
Guess I never bothered to take a closer look. After all, I was always the spellcaster lobbing fireballs from behind a wall of armor-clad warriors. Coward...

They have a dog-like appearance and build, but they had scales and were hairless like reptiles. :) Maybe a wolf skeleton wrapped in a reptiles skin.
