On mars already, waiting!
For my Alt_history mod I want to introduce more tactical options by having the unit abilities spread over more units. At the moment artillery is a problem, cos the artillery unit is good for every occasion, long range bombardment and short range assault attacks; In fact it can do both at the same time, heavy assault fire but from two squares away.
So now here is a two square artillery for long range attacks against enemy strong points, so that the artillery can be used for short ranged high powered attacks.

Any way what ever you want to use it for here is a Heavy artillery unit;

Here

and here is a preview;

Hey looks very nice, also you could make it just like an artilerry unit except that it could come at like motorized transportation, and cost a little more due to the fact that it has an increased range

Ohh yea also i forgot to add:

the pediaicons pictures needs to go into...

..\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\units

and the Units_32 should be obvious but it goes into your Units_32.pcx in...

:love: Fantastic looking unit, great thing to have more big guns!!!

Did U use an American WW2 howitzer as model for this unit (I believe I can recognize it)?

:goodjob:

SM,
You da man!

Do you make only modern units, or do you make stuff from earlier ages? I'd love to see a Field Artillery unit for a mod I'm making. Similar to the Howitzer idea, but for the 1600s and onwards, to eventually be replaced by the Howitzer.

A very cool unit... You certainly are one of the best Smoking Mirror, as Pablostuka said (I don't know about myself) I'm actually in the process of designing a WWI heavy artillery peice (similar to the German 'Big Bertha') This would make an excellent unit for it to upgrade too... with these two as high cost long range guns we could change the present artillery peice to a short range low cost unit...

Thanks all; The artillery units are quite quick to do, because they have so few (and relativly simple) animations, I'm also thinking of doing a fixed artillery piece (outlined in red in the example below), a purely defensive artillery unit, imobile with high powered three square attack, perhaps with more than one attack (blitz).
Is the German mobile artillery pictured below like what Ed o' war was talking about. I saw the south american modern day artillery womoks was working on, and that looked great, but I plan to do a generic WWII SPA unit anyway so would it be of any use ( I could move it nearer the top of my list).

For inspiration I used the old civ II howitzer and this artillery piece from Harlans CTP WWII units collection. I tried to make it from the original graphic, but it turned out to be quicker to just do it from scatch. Are any of the other units below ones that people would like to see?

Also for Kinboat, your units are exelent, I should imagine firaxis are hoping that your WWI units will find their way on to the Play the world "best of the net" disk. Its a relativly under represented era when it comes to custom units, and your animations are much better than mine.

Looks good! May we see an animated preview if possible :)

To Smoking mirror:

Just about to suggest what U are talking about: The heavy, defensive and immobile gun - but why not use the graphics of a really heavy gun emplacement (a large naval type gun adopted for territorial defence)? Would make a great unit!!

To Pablostuka (and everybody else here):

This would be great too (the Karl, Dora and Bertha type gun) - and as I mentioned in a thread under General discussions it would be fun to make these units moveable by rail only...but that seems to require a small patch og something - anyone up to that?
Think of it - U could really hamper enemy warfare then by cutting his/her rail lines...and railroads would mean more than just "instant" movement.

I always thought there should be flag to limit movement to roads and railroads... it would let you make large semi-immovable units, instead of just limiting them to the cities.

The editor has the flag "wheeled". A "wheeled" unit can't go trough mountains or jungle. If you make these units "wheeled", and with only 1 movement point, it could be more realistic. I think it's the unique way to simulate this (with the actual editor).

Good thinking :)

To smoking mirror:
Your heavy artillery unit is so smooth and looks very good in the game - better than many of the original ones - and if arty units are so easy to make why not make more? :D .....heavy gun emplacements etc....

Very good one !

I like that a lot ! We're having a good number of arty units now.
