New Unit Preview Veritech Fighter

From what I understand from other threads, it cycles through A, B & C if present. I'm not a unit creator though.

It might be interesting, though, if it does cycle back to the guardian mode for a brief moment. I'm not sure how that would work out. It could fire off a missile or something in C then switch back to A...

So it ends each turn in Guardian mode?

No it's normally in the jet fighter mode (default and run)... then it Fortifies into Guardian... At the begining of each combat the land units in CIV3 play the fortify animation then start the attack animation... So I needed to transform from guardian to Battloid at the begining of the attack... At the moment I just have it firing it's main gun (repeated a couple of times) but I suppose I could throw an alternate attack in somewhere.

How do these work... does it run through A then B then C? I don't know how it goes about using the different animations... but it might work better if AttackA only plays once then it cycles attackB or something... See at the begining of the Attack it transforms from the Guardian mode to the Battloid mode... I don't want the begining transformation to repeat during an attack... I'm rambling now. If anyone out there knows more about the INI file let me know.

And it would be easier for me because my image editing program locks up if the file has 18 or more frames in it... don't know why. I kind of worked around this by using another cheesier program to combine the different files...

I believe that if you have an attackA and attackB, it will play attackA once, then loop AttackB until the battle is over. At least I know the spearman works that way. I'm not sure how it works if you have an attackC, though. Maybe it loops all three of them in A, B, C order.

The only thing is if you make the transformation one of the attack animations, it will act as if it's an actual attack, so the act of transforming could damage the enemy unit, which is a little strange.

Maybe it can be shooting it's hand-held auto-cannon as it transforms. That would be a cool animation, and it would explain why the opposing unit was damaged as the Veritech transformed. Man, this is going to be a cool unit when it's finished! :)

Thanks TedG... Maybe I'll have it shot once right after the transformation in AttackA... then have the loop in AttackB. I'll have to check out my options. I just hope it lives up to the expectations everyone is forming for it :) I don't wanna bomb now and disappoint everyone.

I think, that quite simplt it cycles through AttackA,AttackB,[AttackC(ifpresent)] and just loops the last one (B or C) again and again.
I think you should make it shoot while transforming or right after transforming in attackA, abd the attack with a very powerfull weapon in B, and then just shooting with a small gun in C...
Just my 0.02$

Kinboat,

From what I've seen already, there is no way we could be disappointed. The previews are fantastic. It will turn out awesome. Keep up the good work!

With Attack1, Attack2 it plays Attack1 then repets on Attack2, with AttackC it loops all of them.
For this i would have Attack1 and Attack2 only then have transform back in Victory, it will not do it all the time but it is better then not at all.

I think we're getting on the right track here....

If you watch the swordsman attack sequence, he swings once, then goes into a series of jabs until he wins or dies

[Nitpick Mode]
Correction. If it's Macross, it's called a Valkyrie. If it's Robotech, THEN it's a Veritech. Also, Guardian is only from Robotech, it's called GERWALK mode in Macross. :)

yo, kinboat! nice job :D

btw, what do you all think that the unit stat should be?? and what kinda editor tags should be allowed?

Thanks Level for clearing that up... it should only take me a few moments to fix up the attack (I have everything rendered it just needs to be organized) And for the Victory I have it in the default jet mode doing a barrel roll... I thought about transforming back, but since it wouldn't play all the time (and would take quite a bit of time on my part... delaying the pending release :) ) I decided to just go with something simpler to render. Nitpick all you want I'm in a good mood :) Since I'm not too familiar with the series (only saw a few episodes here and there a long time ago) I'm getting all my info from a few fan sites and what you guys say on here... I thought the Valkyrie was just an advanced version from the second season or something... Since I'm calling it a Veritech we'll say it's Robotech (and I'm using Guardian mode too)... I should be posting it sometime later tonight! I have some sounds made up but if anyone has specific wavs from the show or something I could try to work them in...

Addition... about the transforming back after attacking... I really didn't notice the absence in the game trials I've done... Maybe at some later date I'll have more time to work up another transform so that it can be used for the victory... Tell me if you think it needs it after you've seen it in the game. :)

Ok... I've finished it and posted it... Small problem while posting and the zip was bad. One person downloaded it before I could upload it again (I think it was Ed O'War) But a good copy and preview should be up now... If you have ideas for stats to use please post them in that forum so others can find them in one place :)

oops forgot one other thing. About the Victory, a transformation sequence wouldn't really work since I've discovered the game switches to the default animation after battle and before any victory animation is played. So it would already have jumped to the jet form and a transformation would just be confusing...
