New Unit: Steam Road Roller

I made this Unit as a Request from my Good Friend Civinator and I hope others can also use it. :)

I searched without success for a good 3d Model of a Steam Road Roller and finally found one. David A. Swan aka Birdman gave me the 3d Model he made and placed the Roller on the front as well as change the format so I could use it in Poser... Great Guy!
...I added extra Textures, Guard Bar around the Front Roller and Animated it.

The Steam Road Roller is intended as a Worker Unit to Build Roads faster than a Foot Unit and it can also Attack.
The Steam Road Roller needs to have an Attack Setting in order to use it to Build Roads as a Non Normal Worker Unit.
Simply Set "Build Roads" under "Worker/Engineer Actions" in your Biq.

I recommend a worker Strength of 150% to 175% if you want to see the Road Animation. If too Strong, the Unit will build
the Road instantly with No Animation. Use Strong Attack/Defense and as many moves as you prefer. Blitz is Nice :)

You can also set it to be Captured but you will need to set all worker abilities and no Attack or Defense, same settings as a
Normal Worker that can be Captured.

ALT_SRRLarge.pcx has a White Background
ALT_SRRSmall.pcx has a Colored Background
ALT_SRR_units_32.pcx is for Light City Screens and Build Queues

Adjusted .ini file

Animations (flcs): SRRDefault.flc, SRRRoad.flc, SRRRun.flc, SRRFortify.flc, SRRFidget.flc, SRRAttack.flc, SRRDeath.flc
and SRRWhistle.flc (for Victory and Captured).

Sounds Made from a Real Steam Road Roller: SRRRoad, SRRRun.wav, SRRFortify.wav, SRRFidget.wav, SRRAttack.wav,
SRRDeath.wav and SRRWhistle.wav (for Victory and Captured).

Remade the Default Flc to use Offsets so the Unit is seen inside the Bottom Right Game Unit Window Box with a better position.

Now the next version of CCM has its superworker.

Civinator... You are Very Welcome and I am Happy you like it and others can use it.

I recorded sounds from a Real Steam Road Roller to use in making the Unit Sounds.

One of my "pet Peeves" is the Run sounds that always seem to want to play after a Unit Stops Moving. I believe I have this corrected for this Unit anywhere on the Map. All, Game tested and works Very well.

Very interesting about the Steam Road Rollers... They were extremely important and served a Great Purpose in the development of Better Roads.

Funny how slow they were, 5 to 8 miles an hour ( reason for the .ini file Normal and Fast Speeds).
My Wife remarked about the Attack considering how slow these Steam Road Rollers were " Look Out! That Snail is about to Attack!"

We all tend to use "Artistic License" for the Game Units but I did keep it slow.

Hope you all find some FUN with it.
 
The Steam Road Roller first time in action. The unit is phantastic! What you can´t see on the screenshot is the cornucopia of different variations of steam; black and whiter smoke, different smoke clouds for different actions - and the worker animation fits to the setting of the early superworker in CCM version 2.00. This unit is a jewel! :clap::hatsoff:

This is a really splendid unit. The enthusiasm, the steam, the roller falling off... it really seems to have character. Well done indeed! :goodjob:
 
I have an 'architect' in my mod that builds roads only.
I can have it upgrade to this creation!
 
...I really like this unit.

So surprisingly it didn´t win the unit of the month contest, in my eyes this unit is the best Civ 3 unit of the last ten years. :):goodjob:
 
Oni Ryuu... Glad you like the Unit.
I did consider other worker animation when making the Unit and perhaps they could be done, however it is a matter of what could be used for the other worker action hooked up to the Steam Road Roller and also where to find the 3d Models or Props.

If the Steam Road Roller was set up with Belts it would be stationary. It is rather difficult to see how anything else hooked up to the Belt could perform the other worker jobs.

If it helps Pile driving, winching and processing cereals are static. A type of A-frame pulley system for uprooting trees (I can’t remember what it’s called), seed drilling and ploughing are in motion. It doesn’t necessarily have to move around the tile just show working actions or simply place the equipment next to it and make it vibrate. I’m not trying to pester I just wanted to clear things up. Thanks.

PS I've asked Balam-Agab for a similar setup using a shire horse.
