Yeah from what I have heard it is much faster but at $99 it's not something that comes cheap. Personally I'm gonna wait a while and let the price drop before buying 5.5.

Hell, I got Bryce 5.5 for $20, got the content bundle free with it and also got effectively $30 in vouchers of other DAZ products too!

I made somethings for someone, and they just bought me 5.5 in exchange. 5.5 came with alot of extra stuff (download version). Probably 60-100.00 in extras (at regular DAZ pricing). I haven't much use for any of it. If I had bought it, I'd rather have had a plain lower cost one with no extras.
5.5a multi-tasks better. You can click on the icons on the bottom bar and actually go to that program with out ALT+TAB.
For me, it is not faster. In fact, it seems slower on less complex frames, but on the more complex frames it is definately faster.
But it handles refraction, reflection and transparency completely different.
Here is an GIF rendered with the exact same settings as the death-preview in post #1:
prometheusdeath9qf.gif

As you can see, the sheild is not at all the same. Is is very refractive, not very clear, etc... But because it was faster on the complex times, the total time to render this went from 30-40minutes to 10 or so.
These times on a 3700+ Amd64 with 2gb of ram. I can't imagine how long this death would take on my previous system (P4 2.6, 1gb).
But even though it is faster on this type of flc, it is slower on simple ones... like run... if I remember, it was a 2min 10 secs vs. 1min 45secs.

well, no magic place to buy it from - just a special deal that DAZ were doing for platinum club members, as well as a discount if you already owned Bryce 5. I think the upgrade discount is still available, though.

Ah, I'd been considering the platinum club. Seems they take quite good care of those people. The only reason I haven't done it, is that there is so little content of theirs that is interesting to me. I just didn't like the idea of paying monthly dues for something I wasn't sure if I was going to use.

I would assume they would allow you to cancel at any time. So I might join up pay the fee and buy Bryce 5.5 and then cancel. Wonder if they accept Paypal for monthly payments. Through it might be wise of me to get my new system up and running first

Ive been busy but when I get a chance ill test it. Hoping its as good as I can imagine, but might even be better than perfect but ill see.

I know this comes a bit late, but Im building a random Civs MOD, and am using a Stargate themed Civ...this is the best stargate unit Ive seen to date, as well as probably the most accurate...I agree that its too plain grey, but the ship is very ugly in the show...not as flashy as the Star Trek predicesors...

Many props and thanx for adding this amazing ship to the ranks of usable units

one small thing(no praise can be complete without a critisizm)...does it have to put the sheilds up to fidget?...thats the one thing that isnt realistic...in the show, sheilds are used sparingly...for a fidget, it maybe could drop the ring transporter? (an animation that would make it perfect in my game as it is an armored transport)
