I think there are maybe too many wonders.
It used to be the case that there were just seven for each age (back in Civ1).
Wonders tend to just reward the player who's winning by making them win more.
Also, having so many wonders sort of lessens the "Cool, I've got this wonder of the world on my city."
It's already the case that you can have a single city with a huge number of wonders.
I do like the idea of special scientific achievements though. Although it would be nice if they did something more subtle and different from the "normal" wonders. I'm not sure what.
I like the idea of actual achievements too, like circumnavigating the globe and whatnot. I havn't played C3C, so I don't know if/how this is already implemented, but I like the idea. It should give a culture bonus to the city that built the ship or whatever. "Famous Sons of the city" type thing.
How about you get a few Exploration Achievements: first civ to travel round the globe, and get to each pole (obviously the poles would need to work differently than how they do at present).
Then, once your unit returns to their home city, the home city gets to build a statue in recognition to them, or seomthing, which gives the city a cultural bonus.

Spanish Inquisition and White Mans Burden??!!
In the Inquisition, the Jews of Spain massacred and forced to leave (in addition to the already 5000 years of this).
The White Mans Burden is a justification for racism and imperialism.
Im not sure these are the best options, and dont like the idea of this being a going forward in the tech tree.
I KNOW WE already have facism and so forth, but these specific things I really dont like.
Forgive me if this has already been discussed (not read the whole thread yet),
but,
the game is about Civilisation.
And like it or loathe if (preferably loathe it), that's how civilisation on this planet has worked. Only now that us in the West are all "liberal and enlightened" can we see how wrong past generations have been (slavery, etc etc).
Would definatly make the game more interesting to have elements like those suggested in it. And, it's not like you'd have to go and "research" them.
On Earth, some civ's have been "good", and some have been "evil." The more the game allow's you to do the same, the better.
It would also give players "good" excuses to go to war. If a Civ is embracing slavery or something, then more enlightened civ's should look done on them, etc.
