Hello everybody!

In 2014 I posted my map on this forum and it seems it was appreciated.
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/regarding-gigaworld-maps-redux.538316/

Now I would like to show you the very last version of my map with important changes. I wanted to make it even more realistic.

-As always the most difficult parts of the world to change are Japan and Spain. I did my best to remove the last geographical mistakes.

-Meditteranean sea is higher.
-Shape of India is different, same for New Zealand, Ireland, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc

I too decided to make the map playable for people who refuses to use my mod (I consider it as a simple graphic update of the very old 1999 game...) and removed the "Taïga" terrain that made the nothern parts of the world unplayble without the accurate mod.
If you want to open the map, please try with the new terrain graphics!

I changed the units and went back to something more original. Extra units are again more about cosmetic changes.
No changes about the extra technologies.
Factories are still very expensive, in order to oblige the nations to trade or build a limited number of industrial centers (like in reality).

Communism is still a bit different with more corruption.
No irrigations on deserts, tundra. Takes more time to remove swamps and jungles.

I would like to build a big group of players who want to play multiplayer games. If interested tell me! I'm obviously open for games on other maps and scenarios.

Some pictures attached with the whole MOD+ New World Map+ the model I used to make the map.

Best regards,

Louis

Nice work! What is the total size of the map? I assume this is a gigamap?

@CurtSibling is always on the lookout for new world maps.

This looks amazing! Not seen it in map mode, but the screenshots. That said, is there a save file that has all of the cities like in the Australia screenshot? As a wannabe scenario designer ot would be a good template to work from.

I'm not much of a multiplayer, because I have a savescumming problem (which could be solved by better scouts, cheap diplomats, and artillery that fires shells instead of risking the very expensive unit itself.)

I might be open to trying a multiplayer in a game which is designed to mitigate savescum tendencies (unique units have one to three regens before being lost), good scouts where i don't have to attack unit formations and cities blind. I admit I might not be a good candidate.

As for maps that I'd find useful, it would be an East Asia map, more or less in the scope of the map of the DST Scenario (Japan at War). Ideally what you could do is have multiple giga maps that are the same size as the Giga European Map so they can be configured, along with an Africa below the Sahara and Map of North America, including the Carribean ISlands and hopefully down to Panama. Have them all be the same size so they can be coordinated to make epic worldwide conflict on multiple maps.

OR, you could redo the maps Colonies IV style were they are very VERY long, Put North America, the top of South America Western Europe and the top half of Africa on one very long map, and then have another be all of Asia. With some Lua scripting, they could all be laid east to west for any post Columbus game.

But honestly with your attention to detail Giga map dedicated to North America, the whole of it, would provide a base for many scenarios, Civil War, post-apocalyptic. Mexican War, plus it's a good for greater scope games. Honestly I wantt to make a Fallout scenario and a good North America map would do wonders.

And, to save time, I think there's a base map you could work with, it's the US map from American Kingdoms, just use a map editor to make the map taller, then fill in Canada and Central America and the Caribean. But,m I emphasize those are suggestions, cause it sounded like you were open to them. If I misread, my apologies.

Having looke at your map, I think it's great, that you'd sacrificed ocean for more land which makes Europe a lot more viable. and there's SO much room for expansion in the Pacific, goodness.

Hi!

Yes it's a huge map, it's a 144*227.

To Konig15>> If you want to play with me you are welcome! I made a group on Hamachi: civilization/2. You can join it.
Do you mean that you save the game all the time in order to avoid frustration to lose a battle or something like that?

Well, yeah. There are a couple of reasons I savescum:
1. AI pathing, especially on railroads is really really bad and sometimes on long trips it goes off rail for no logical reason
2. Things like a World War 1 scenario where there's lot of units on the Western Front, units will attack when I put them in a square I think is unoccupied but it actually is occupied with a uni that destroys mine
3. UNits are al Death or Glory. Ideally, I'd select a marker that says "non-veteran units on your side will only attack long enough to become veterans". So I have to bloody the units and soft targets aren't always available. If I had more control of hen/if a unit becomes a veteran in the field, I wouldn't feel so compelled
4, Unit stack advertising a weak unit but hiding a strong one or city where I cannot scout it because scouting/diplo units don't exist. So I have to do probing atttacks and units are generally to expensive for that and worse, often give the powerful defender Veteran status themselves.
5. Simple butterfingers in moving units

Mmmh, you know I'm only interseted in having fun with this game. I don't mind when I lose or if we start with non 100% equal starting places...

Send me a private message or join my Hamachi group! :)

I'm not starting a game correctly because A, I'm not getting the new graphics and when I try and load from the save game, even though it's in the "CIv Mod" file with all the new rules and graphics, I get a CTD and a Fatal error thing saying "Error '-5'" in module '3' data 67 0.

I have no idea what this means

Are any of these maps bigger than the Gigaworldmap that we can find on the forum?
