Newb Question: How do you convert an Internet game to PBEM?

Hello!! This is my first time playing Civ3 in MP and even tho its been out for a while now I'm really excited about

My problem is this: I want play PBEM with my friend but to speed up the first say... 20-30 turns of the game we want to play simultaneous in Internet mode. Then save the game and switch over to PBEM. But I dont know how to make that switch!

I have read several posts on the subject and they all seem to indicate that what I am thinking of is possible. But none of them describe how to do it... they just say "convert your savefile to PBEM" with no more explaination. I'm sure it is something I am just missing cause I am a newbie - Can any of the veterans out there help me out with some clear steps on how to convert?

probably just start a pbem in the multiplayer menu. then load your saved game. make sure you have the players set right though

I'm not sure what you mean? Perhaps I am not familiar with the steps involved.. Can you just spell it out completely to me? If I were to initially start the game as a PBEM and then.... somehow run it as an Internet game and switch back? Really dont understand

What I have tried so far is this: I initiate the game in Internet mode, we play a couple of turns just to test, then I save it. Then I restart C3C, load up the game file and try to play a turn - this doesnt work, it just treats the game like single player, there was no Save&Exit kind of command.

So, then I tried looking around in the PBEM menu for a "load" command or something similar to that which could be used to start a game based on an existing save file. Couldn't find one tho.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make this conversion?
