Newbie citizen management questions

Thank you, Memoryjar. Concrete examples of what I did wrong will help a lot.

I pulled the game out and now an hour later, I can't see it not being a lost cause - all of the AI hate me and nothing I can do will appease them.

You mentioned wiping out a Civilization earlier, didn't you? That would get you stuck with a warmongering penalty that could last the entire game, and yeah, there's little you can do to appease them.

Don't DoW early on, and especially don't wipe someone out, unless you either a) plan on carrying on along the same line and wipe out everyone else as well or b) no one else has discovered either of you yet, and you won't suffer a penalty for it.

ETA I checked happiness and I see "-24 from Public Opinion" - aka yet another culture change that I haven't yet figured out. They really should have included a new tutorial with such sweeping changes.

I'm guessing your Ideology is different from the other civilizations, and if they trump you in tourism output, that'll hit your happiness hard. Additionally, having a different Ideology from the AI will make them hate you, unless you've got a lot of other things going for you to make up for it. Considering you've probably got both that and the warmongering penalty, yeah, lots of hate going around.

Have you tried switching ideologies to match the one of the AI Civ influencing you so much?

Here you are. Your game T142 played to T296.

With that, you can take AI capitals in 50 to 75 turns. Artillerys are enough for Sweden, Celts and Carthage.
Maybe you'll need Zeros for Iroquois.

Finish amphi and opera in Honolulu, after build Ermitage in Kyoto. You'll have to manage unhappiness when Celts reach its ideology if it's not order. Build Eiffel Tower it must be enough.
Look at your cash. Build stock exchange in Osaka after Artiilery. A cavalry is certainly needs to conquer cities.

To learn, look at Kyoto, what I build, trade route (2 for food for Kyoto), locked tiles for food end production. Specialist cause Secularism.

What I did ? Raze Samoa and Tonga. Go for Coliseum and Cirus, then Maximus Circus. Went for Public School, create a religion (Pagodas), made CSquests for Happiness and Culture. After Public School, reach artillery (bulbing GS) and Oxford for Radio for Order. I mind to take Autocracy. It were a few turns for building barracks and armories for tenet 2 happiness. Too long. I prefer have faster an Artillery army.

Thank you, MemoryJar and lesserevil. I will play around with this some more. From both of your posts it sounds like a domination win is the only possibility in this particular game after how I opened up with early war.
