Hey dojoboy,
Thanks for picking me up, even if you didn't have an answer, I thought I was lost in the shuffle there for a while. I play unmodded with all the default settings except I turned off Space Race. I think that's just too easy if you're ahead in tech and I would never get to see what a mfg plant looks like.

Oh well, I guess I'll just keep on trucking and picking up opportunities for more culture where I can. Worst comes to worst I'll win in 2050 by score.

Either you have to remember what you enabled or not (and I am sure that you would) or you have to use a tool.

Gramphos's C3MT doesn't ruin too much. You have to really probe into the program (for example load the map, or look up cites) to ruin the game. Just quickly click on the "Generals" tab and see what victory conditions are enabled or not.

You can also use that tool to push the finish date farther :) I push it back to 2700 AD usually.

Check the histograph screen, and go to the cultural graph. You could measure the width of your own line and those of your opponent. Then you'd have to correlate your own cultural score width the width of your own line, thus creating a common denominator (I don't know if it's called like that in English, but you get the point) with which you can calculate your opponents cultural value.

Very elaborate. You could just as well estimate the score by looking at the graph: iirc you need twice as much culture as your opponent, so that should be visible to the naked eye.

You could also check the downloads from the tools forum (subforum of C&C) if there's a tool similar to Mapstat ('culturestat' or something;) ) There is a tool for calculating the exact date for cultural victory, called Apollo. You could make a copy of the save file.
 
The opinion of the other civs will also help you determine your cultural ratio; your advisor will tell you what the other civs think of you.

If the other civs are admirers of or in awe of, then you have 2x or 3x as much culture as those civs. If impressed with (1-1) or less, then you don't have at least 2x as much culture as that civ.
 
Is there a way to tear down fortifications, when I choose pillage the unit removes the roads and other improvements first? also does anyone else get errors where the computer can't find a file (usually a sound file) I think it may be related to the 180+ units I have (major multi-continent land war with Russia)?
 
@ACR: the order of pillaging is unfortunately hard-coded, from what I've heard. I think the order is RR, mines/irrigation/road, then fortification. The second problem I haven't heard of, but you may wish to post it in the PTW Bug Reports (if you're using PTW); maybe someone there can help you.

I don't have the game with me now, and I can only recall that my fortified units face mostly southeast or couthwest. :)

Is it designed this way so you don't see your knight's rearend? :D

Actually, I have seen this a couple of times, but have no idea what causes it. It seems to only happen to the AI, too. sometimes, I see their units facing in that direction, then fortify, and they're still in that direction. Sometimes, I just come onto the screen and see them already fortified in that position. Wierd.

I think it's RR/road/mines/irrigation/fortress. I've done it enough times to be pretty sure of that. I hate having the fortress torn down last, because what I usually do is to erect fortresses on top of my resources. When the resource disappears, it sucks because it's just a big green thing there w/o any resource.

Quick question : -

Can ICBMs withstand a nuke attack? Do they get killed like normal units during the nuke attack?
 
I have a question on the Forbidden Palace.

I have 1 city on the coast, size 6, currently building an aquaduct.
I figured this city would be ideal for my FP location, but it won't give me it as an option. When I right-click, it doesn't show up on the build list; when I go into the city view, it has it shadowed but I'm still unable to choose it. Some turns earlier, I could have picked FP for this city if I wanted to at that time, now I can't.

Strange thing is, I can go to the nearest city & select the FP with no problem. What gives?

I'm using PTW 1.14; standard map, Ottomans, no mods, Warlord.

Does it have something to do with the city requiring an aquaduct 1st?

Darius II, were you building something else and did you try to switch to the FP? If so, you probably rushed that. Either trough the normal rush option or through deforresting a tile in your city radius...

In those situations you are not allowed to switch to a wonder, a palace or the FP.
 
Or disbanding a unit in the city will cause this too.

In essence, all shields in the prouction box must come from the city's workers only.

Worth noting that if you are building a wonder (which includes the FP) and you try any of these shield-adding methods you will not get and shields added to your production box. In this case you can still build the wonder, or even change to a different one.
 
I may have rushed a swordsman in that city while in depotism many turns ago when I was at war, but that's it. I have not rushed anything since nor have I ever disdanded a unit in the game. As far as the other options, perhaps an automated worker threw a wrench in the works, such as deforesting a tile?
I didn't know that was considered a rush.

So let me get this straight. Whatever project a city is currently building, if a worker deforests a tile to contribute 10 shields to the city (or whatever), that precludes switching to a wonder until the non-wonder project is completed?
 
Darius II, what you have experienced with an automated worker is one of the many sins they commit.

Try playing a game without automated workers as there are huge benifits. You may like it so much that you don't go back :)
