No, I believe that the only factor that determines the bonus is when you win. There's no adjustment for type of victory. So, actually, your guess is backwards - you get more points for an earlier victory.

This, incidentally, is why I don't really care about my score. The system rewards early conquest, which is not a play style that interests me, or builder/milking, which I don't have the patience for. (I'm a builder but not a milker.) So my scores won't measure up well against others'.

Why is it that when I get declared on, my enemy sings a MPP with someone, and now im fighting 2 wars? they do it so quick sometimes.

An why is it sometimes that after a ROP or Trade ends with a friend of mine, their is nothing I can do to get them to stay in the deal, and next few turns they declare on me.

And why when im enjoying peace, someone declares war on me for no good reason?

A mpp is mutual protection and if you have an mpp w/ someone and someone attacks you, the one that you had an mpp with will have to declare war on that someone that attacked you. They do it really quick, I know, so you have to be quick in signing alliances and mpps. And trade embargos too.

If the AI wants to attack you they'll cancel the deal and then attack so to not have a rep hit on them. Sometimes they'll just attack you even with trade. I had alliances with other countries and they broke them

The AI can be a real idiot, they sometimes just do that.

@Volker - I would say, in a situation like that, fight a defensive war inside your borders. That way, the MPP will never be activated because you have only attacked them inside your territory. I would also try to contact them every turn, and end the war asap. I also wouldn't give anything to them, as the AI would probably construe you as being weak, and attack again later.

This can happen for a couple of reasons. First, if you are "in their way" of expansion (no more free territory elsewere), they will attack you to gain more territory, no matter what your size. They probably have a bigger chance of attacking if you are bigger, and control lots of territory. Another reason could be if you have a weak military. They could just decide to "pick on you." Yes, this could probably also be tied in with the first reason. Control lots of territory with a weak military, and you're basically begging to get attacked.

Other times, you can enjoy a full game of peace without being attacked. If you can maintain great relations with neighbors, and they aren't aggressive, you can sometimes have a relatively peaceful game. Other times, there's just no avoiding it, and they will declare war no matter what you do.

You aren't supposed to be able to unload a unit from an army. However, I believe that there is a bug in the latest PTW version that allows you to unload units. Since you normally cannot unload units and therefore cannot upgrade them, this gets rid of some of the "strategic" aspects of the army. However, many argue that you should be able to upgrade them anyway. Anyway, I believe that you unload units from an army by selecting the unit, and using the "Goto" command. I could be wrong, however.

I also see people in this forum talk about cancelling trade agreements, or checking to make sure something has been going on for 20 turns before starting a war, or staying in war for 20 turns because you signed a military alliance, etc. I can never seem to figure out how I can cancel a trade? is it in the trade advisor screen? foreign advisor for peace treaties? i dont have the expansion set if that matters. thanks

To cancel any sort of agreement you set up with another civ, you call them up for diplomacy as you would to propose a new deal. Then, propose a deal, and check near the bottom of the negotiations screen. It should say "Active." Click that, and it lists all deals you have with a civ. Click on any deal that has lasted at least 20 turns, and you can re-negotiate, or just cancel it by taking it off the table.

It's a good idea to cancel deals/alliances, etc, before going to war/signing peace, or otherwise you will get a reputation hit for breaking the deal.

"unload" a "unit" from an "army"? an army is one cities party of military units? so switching or "unloading" to different cities would make a city getting flush down the toilet support one less military unit and be able to send it off to a city that could use it more and can afford another military unit?

An "army" is a seperate military unit, that you can load other units into to make one "super-unit" (if you wanna call it that). They fight together as one unit, share HP, etc. You can create an army by using a leader, and clicking the "create army" button, or, after you have a victorious army, building the military academy, and building armies. You need to have at least 4 cities per army.

Perhaps someone should have read his/her instruction manual... :D ;)

And perhaps he/she doesn't have an instruction manual.

4 cities per army!?

um um

let say I have a unit: Swordsman I pop out 6 of them... I can have them all mass into a super army?

Well, yes and no. You just need to "create" an army first. As mentioned above, you need to create one using either a Leader, and clicking the create army button, or military academy, and building it in one of your cities. An army acts just as an expensive military unit. You need to "load" units into the army, as you would into a transport. There is a maximum of 3 units per army, and after you build the pentagon, it increases to 4. So you can have an army of those swordsmen, you just can't have all six of them in one army, without modding the game.

And perhaps he/she doesn't have an instruction manual

Well then perhaps I/me will be happy to answer any other questions you have, regarding basic game concepts. ;)

I'm not a newbie, but I usually play with a single continent. I'm in a game with two large continents, and I don't know how to get cruise missiles from 'my' continent to the continent dominated by the evil, warmongering greeks. I want to defend the cities I've captured from them!

Any hints?

First... tell them Zues will summons storms and Poseidon will flood cities if they don't tribute you with Athens and a few other cities.

Okay so an army is like a say "library"that is built in the city and then you garrison those swords men and they make and army.... then what?

I'm not sure, but I believe that, unmodded, cruise missiles cannot be transported. You can't "load" them into anything. You cannot air lift them either. You can probably suffice without cruise missiles though. Just build up some more military units, rush an airport on the other continent, and airlift units in.

*sigh* Nope, wrong again. An army is just like another military unit you build. It is sort of like a "transport" for other units. It can move freely around the map. You then move the units you want to "load" onto the same space as the army, and you press the "load" button. You then have 1 unit loaded onto the army. Repeat that to load more units, until you reach the maximum (3 before pentagon, 4 after).

Then, after you have your army, you can use it just like a military unit. You can use it to attack, defend, move around the map, whatever. The only thing it can't do is pillage, although that can be changed... It retains the movement of the SLOWEST unit. For example, if you have tanks and infantry in an army, it will only have 1 movement point. However, if you have only tanks in the army, it will have 2 movement points. It also uses the highest attack value for attacking, and the highest defensive value for defending.
