@Bose. It's just you :)

It might be psychological, in that you resent the elite losses more and so they are more memorable.

I believe people with waaaay too much time on their hands have pretty much proven that the combat system is fair and bug free.

Personally, I rarely lose elites because I almost never attack except at overwhelming odds (i.e. 5hp elite vs wounded, hopefully 1hp, defended, not on hills etc). My veterans take the brunt of the battles, because they get a chance to become elite that way, and have a good chance of winning compare to a similar regular, while I am saving the elites for the sure thing wins.

The ones that makes me toss and turn at night are when elite cavs get done by gumby archers. It happened four times to me last night... i felt like transforming my computer into a $3K paperweight! I suppose at least it gives me something to whinge about...

While i'm whinging, how about creating a 2 turn worker in a future patch?

I know it is possible to start diplomacy by clicking the "D" in the bottom right corner. This brings up a list of the civ to start diplomacy no matter how many. The question I have is; is there a way to increase the # of other civs in the diplomacy circle if there are more than 8 total? In the current GOTM I had to always click the bottom right to get to the Iroquois, who were not in the circle as the ninth civ.

Could someone be kind enough to direct me to a thread that explains how to win by conquest without triggering a domination win please?

I bartered for Chivalry last turn. This turn I want to upgrade Horsemen and it won't let me. My city has both iron and horses, and I try to build Knights and it's not on the menu -- Horsemen are still there! My science screen shows Chivalry as blue and says I already know those secrets when I double-click on it. Is this a bug in 1.07f or am I doing something stupid? BTW, how do I find what's been fixed when?

Thanks much!

Norm!

What you need is sufficient gold, (I believe its 80 from horseman to knight--half that playing excelerated production, half again with leonardo's workshop) and you need a barracks in the city. Also, try to get a version like 1.29f because there ARE bugs like that.

If you can't build knights, that's no bug... Maybe you're playing the chinese or something , then the knight is replaced by their UU, the rider. Or something.
Are there other knightlike UU's in vanilla? Hmmm. Oh yeah. The samurai.

wow i wish i was smart enough to get ptw for 14¢! I got mine for over 30 bucks american!

I see PTW is finally coming here to Australia. And will cost AU$49.95, which roughly converts to 2 Pounds or US$0.14.

I don't know how you count, but I thought an Autralian dollar was roughly 1/2 American dollar, i.e the price would be about 30 USD.

Domination is triggered when you have enough territory. So, if you want to win by conquest, you can't capture the enemy cities, but you have to destroy them instead. Another way is of course to uncheck "allow domination victory" when you set up a new game. :)

@Hurricane, your finger is square on the pulse of the foreign currency market, well nearly. AU$1 is about 60 US cents, but i exaggerated so it would be obvious that i was being really really funny.

I've been scouring the boards and do not see any threads discussing the different civs and starting strategies based on the original characteristics (i.e. commercial, militaristic, expansionist...etc.). Does anyone know where this thread may exist?

Is it just me, or do elite units get their arses kicked more often than veterans? I know they're supposed to better, but they seem to lose fights more often. Really gets my goat.

I'm not sure, but it pisses me off to no end when my elite battleships lose to veteran ironclads. 2 or 3 in a row.
Attack or defend.

Don't worry... I'm sure most people got it.

I feel your pain with the Canadian dollar at 66 US cents.

You made me almost have a heart attack for nothing. I was too lazy to check the conversion rate. I just remembered how some countries, like Iran, had a high conversion rate (1 USD = 7991 Iran).

Well, well, you got me. ;)

Hold down "shift" or "ctrl" and click on the leader head in the forgein advisor. This will replace the civ with the civ of your choice from a list of the civs not shown.

It's SHIFT-RIGHT CLICK to get the list of civs not known. To hold shift while clicking will only highlight the leader.

mr.ed, completly with you. Last night i approached Babylon with about about 20 Vet Riders and 5 Elites. I knew Sistein was there so they'd have a dillion spearmen. They had about 8... and you guessed it... everytime i went in with an elite it lost, everytime a Vet went at it it won. Do the math on that one!
