joedoe21, most people play PBEM games here, they take commitment and time, but are very rewarding.

Chack out the PBEM subforum in the Multiplayer forum. :)

Yeah, I'd like to play a PBEM game.

Do you start from scratch or do you play from a scenario? (I see you are involved in alot of games  )

That depends of course, but most pbem games are like a normal game of civ, but you play against a human opponent instead. Most of the time, there are AI players to bash involved as well:p

I would really like to play a PBEM, would you like to play a game w/me?

EDIT: in your profile it says you do have msn, what is your msn so we can chat?

How can you tell when the AI starts to build a wonder?

I don't think you can in Civilization III. Might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure. You only get told when they have built the wonder, which is really anoying when you're 1-10 turns away from completing it yourself

On the preferences screen (ctrl-P), make sure "Wonder Initiation Pop-up" is checked. :)

As Eman wrote, you get informed only if the Wonder Initiation Pop-up" is checked, but there is another catch: You only get informed when a civ starts building a wonder, if you have contact with the civ.

There's no way to tell whether a civ on another continent has started building the pyraminds.

Thanks, I have another question. How do you make spies?
Develop 'espionage'. Build small wonder intelligence agency. When ready, a special icon is shown next to the city name where i.a. is placed. IIRC DClick on it (or shift-e, or click on small e on interface), 'Plant spy' option available.

As I said, you should visit the PBEM forum.

I have just agreed to a several more PBEM's myself, but there are always people there looking for a game. :)

If I have 1 turn left until I get Theory of Evolution and 1 turn left until I finish researching a tech, will TOE give me 2 new techs or will one of the bonus techs be wasted on the tech I'm about to finish anyway (Vanilla Civ 1.29f)

Thanks in advance!

I've read all about capturing towns, but everytime I move my Spearman or Immortal onto an enemy town (and win the ensuing battle), the town dissappears. How do I capture it?

Cheers

Towns will be automatically destroyed if they are size 1 and have no culture. You just need to capture a few larger towns. :)

I just found this out yesterday myself! If both are set to finish the same turn, you'll be able to choose a new tech to research before TOE kicks in; in other words, your research will not be wasted.

Doh. One more...
"In despotism, production that is 3 or more gets cut down by one point."
Is there anyway to tell this is happening for a particular terrain tile (without knowing the unmodified value of that particular terrain type)?

smcSoon,

Nope, but you can always go to the civlopedia for info on tiles and resources they contain.

You can tell if they have culture by whether their borders have expanded. If expanded, they won't autoraze. Someone mentioned that to me recently, and I felt stupid for not figuring that out on my own:).
