As a newbie on this forum, I've found that people are always complaining that we post our questions in the wrong forums and then the posts have to be moved.

Well... that's why I think you should add a special forum, "Newbie Questions", so everyone would know where to post newbie questions and there would be no confusion over where to post.

Just a suggestion!

AFAIK, there's already a Quick Questions stickied thread in the Civ3 Gen Discussions forum, for that purpose. ;)

That thread's several hundred posts long and growing constantly. What if we had a new Civ3 forum for it? That would be a good idea, IMO.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. I think it would be a great idea.:)

So?

Just ask your question, and someone will answer it. No need to read thru all of it. ;) IIRC, the thread's 'renewed' fr time to time as well.

There're already way too many Civ3 forums IMO.

Just think though, do you really think the average newbie would be able to find the newbie asking questions forum? ;)

Not my problem - I don't guard the front door... :p

Anybody who has been paying attention shld be able to see it, stickied atop the GD forum. ;)

if people would go to the trouble and read before posting.....

IIRC, the first post of the current noob thread states what all previous ones also stated: read the FAQ (link provided), then shoot of your Q. So it doesn't matter at all if the thread grows long!

and do you really think a forum would make hings better? It would just lead to more SPAM!!!! I know a LOT of noobs (and non-noob, me for one) who follow the noob thread regularly even if they do not have Qs. You learn a lot that way - quickly!

:rotfl:

Oh the irony! The 'Quick Questions' thread was called the 'Newbie Questions' thread until someone said it was derogatory (not even a newbie ;))....

I remember someone flaming me when I referred him to the newbie thread and he got a ban for it even  new mods new rules ;) (understandably)

Yep. I got tired of hearing "complaints" about it being named "Newbie Questions", so for the latest incarnation I called it "Quick Answers (Formerly Newbie Questions)".

Maybe I should call it "Newbie Questions/Quick Answers"?

And to answer the original question, no, I do not think we should have any sort of "Newbie"-oriented forum. That way leads to segregation, and elitism by more seasoned posters. As has already been pointed out, the Quick Answers thread is stickied at the top of the General Discussion forum, to keep it easy to find. A lot of us DO keep an eye on it, both to ask/answer questions, and to *learn* from others.

BTW, anyone who refers a "newbie" to the thread had better be polite about it, and answer your question first, if they can.

now call me daft, but I fail to see how creating a noob forum would be creating elitism by the vet posters (save Curt Sibling of coarse... :D)

I mean, sure the more seasoned troops wont hang around threr (as much at least, unless they were a good citizen, and decided to help the noobs) but once they get the basics, and mabey even a custom title, wouldnt they even head out into the cold, crule world that is the CFC enviroment (or more acuratley, OT somtimes...)?

although I dont advocate the creation of another forum, just thought I might post my two small denominations of some form of currency [/smartass]

I agree 100% with Padma - the thread in GD is easily enough to answer simple questions (and some not so simple...), creating a new forum could mean segregation, which is bad.

BTW, anyone who refers a "newbie" to the thread had better be polite about it, and answer your question first, if they can.
And as someone used to say every other post "It's not what you say, but how you say it". :D

I don't think a newbie questions forum would mean "segregation", this is a forum, and forums are meant to categorize things into different topics so they can be easier to find...

As for there being too many forums, I don't think anyone would notice one more....

With one long thread for newbie questions, people aren't going to read through it and end up asking the same thing that someone else already asked earlier in the thread.... with a forum for newbies they would see other topics, read them, and then wouldn't waste everyone's time by posting the same thing again.

When you get down to it, "General Discussions" IS the Newbie Forum. ;)

As for the "Questions/Answers" thread, if you read the first post in it, it says, in bold type:
Don't bother to read through the entire thread, just ask!
Those of us who answer questions there don't really mind answering questions over again. :) If a question is asked often enough, we make sure it is included in the FAQ thread.

I really think we should just add a new forum, sometimes these things are just neccesary, the current amount of newbie junk posts is really annoying it should be put in place.

I think it should be "Newbie Questions/Quick Answers" like Padma said. This way our Noobs can find it, and the 'vets' won't be afraid of asking questions in it.

I've often thought that each 'main' forum could go with the same thing, specific to that area. Civ2 GD, Civ1, OT, SF. Might work out. . . .

I think the problem with naming it Newbie questions is that a lot of the posters think the Newbie term refers to how long they've been playing the game. Now that it's just Quick Answers, I'm not afraid to occasionally go in and ask a question and I've been playing the game for a while...

The forum doesn't have to be called "Newbie Questions", it could be called "Quick Answers", "Newbie Questions/Quick Answers", whatever.
