This thread is specifically for newbies to Civfanatics to post their questions instead of starting a new thread, and I (or some other experienced Civfanatics user) will gladly answer them. ;)

I started this question as a thread, but since no one has posted on it yet, I'll repost my question here...

How do I change NOpt Cities in an Existing 1.21 game?

Now that the 'rules' are included in the .SAV file (instead of the .BIC), I can't figure out how to make these kind of changes to an existing game.

I figure that this is either impossible (to keep people from 'cheating' in GOTM type games), or there is something obvious in the editor that I'm missing.

Since I'm well into a Huge Pagea game where I'm going for a Conquest win, I'm REALLY hoping I've missed something obvious! <grin>

I wish I could answer that..........but I don't use patches. Sorry. :(

I'm not sure what NOpt cities are, probably has something to do with 1.21.

Anyone have an answer to his question?

Edit: You could go to the "Patch 1.21 Bugs and Problems" thread.

NOpt Cities is shorthand for the "Number of Optimum Cities" value that has such an overwhelming impact on corruption and waste on Huge maps, especially when you are trying for a Conquest win (every city you have past NOpt causes additional corruption and waste in EVERY city).

I am betting it's impossible. You could just raze all the cities you capture so you don't go over the NOpt. But wait, what would you do with all the empty territory??

My best suggestion is that you change the NOpt in the editor and then start a new game, and try for a conquest victory.

Nahhh, I'm close enough to the modern age that if it turns out to be impossible, I'll just nuke 'em till they glow! <grin>

I have way too much time invested in this game not to see it through....

I set the NOpt value to 110 before I started this game, but I already have more than 150 cities, and I still have 4 civs to go.

150 cities, 4 civs to go??!!

ROTFL

Ya, just build up like a thousand nukes and nuke all the rest of the civs in one turn.

:rocket2:

You'll still get a conquest victory. :D

To answer the NOC question: since 1.21 the bic version (that is the scenario data is stored in the sav. So, soory, you won`t be able to do anything now. Can`t be changed unless you start a new game.

To help you in your game: remember that your old cities will now have huge cultural radii. Maybe you can abandon some of the less productive ones without opening gaps in the cultural borders (since the neighbours will still touch) that the AI will try to settle.

Or, you can just build so huge amounts of troops that you can simply raize every enemy town without the enemy quickly setting up new ones. Then, you won`t get a domination win, but you can still get conquest! Simply kill them all and keep them from setting up new cities!

@ WarlordMatt: excellent idea about a sticky newbie Q thread!!!! :goodjob:
Often yesterday hotly debated threads are gone to page two today because so many simply Q threads were posted. The FAQ has gotten too long :(

Killer: Thanks for the answer... I was afraid that was the case.

That's a good point about abandoning interior non-productive cities... I can even have them pump out Settlers/Workers to transfer their population to other cities before abandoning them. That should get me through a couple of more civs before I finally go nuclear (I haven't tried nukes since Civ2, and I'm kinda looking forward to it! <grin>).

BTW, I don't have to worry about the domination limit in this game. My personal philosophy is that every time I win a game, I make sure to disable that type of win in my next game. Since I like really long games (Huge, Pangea, Max Civs, Min Water), I figure by the time I finally get a Histograph win, the expansion pack will finally be out! <grin>

I definitely agree about the various FAQ-type threads being too long... who wants to wade through 10 pages of chaff to get 2 pages of information. Too bad there is no easy way to condense the FAQ threads to their bare information. It would also be nice to have an Editor FAQ (although one may already exist, I wasn't able to find it).

Thanx, Killer.:D:D:D

I was trying find "how to post a savegame" in the FAQ thread, but I quit after 2 pages because it's SO LONG!!!!!

As for you IDSmoker, just nuke all the cities of your opposing civs in one turn! (there won't be any civs left to hate you or make your rep go down  )

I have suggested to Killer that he start another F.A.Q. thread....copy the old info over and then he can maintain the new one. I have updated the old one a few times but I have enough other stuff that I don't have time to devote to it that I would like. If Killer doesn't want to (he is my first pick b/c he has been here awhile and has been very active) I would offer it to anyone else. PM me if you re interested.....and remember, if you have suggestions for CFC (civfanatics.com) then please post them. The best place to do this is in the SiteFeedback forum or to send me or CoH a PM. We are receptive to new ideas....the only thing I don't see happening any time soon is more subfora....we have a lot of those already and plan to add Civ3 - Multiplayer soon.

Well Killer???;)

So palehorse, can this thread be a sticky?

Killer has agreed, so that cancels the offer to others, sorry. :)
As to this thread being sticky....with a updated F.A.Q. do you really think we need another sticky thread? I try to keep the number of stickies down as it makes the forum look sloppy (IMHO) to have a lot. There would be less but TF keeps stickying his!! :) (j/k, I sticky his b/c they are of momentary importance..)

So what it comes down to is that I am hesitant to sticky another thread (this one) when we will have an updated F.A.Q. soon. Make sense to you? If you have a good arguement after hearing my reasoning, them fire away....just no flames. ;)
