Civilization VI - Game of the Month 28
Welcome to the 28th game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, or Myself know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed. Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC the AI cant see that it will lose if it accepts the cities. .

Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.
Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Once you have opened the save, DO NOT POST in the Announcement thread, even non game-related information. Instead use the next thread.
Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.
After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date and final score (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.
Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). We will issue medals to the top 3 winners (based on earliest date finished). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

Wow, really cool!!:goodjob: I've never seen a start like this.

My normal inclination would be to settle on the wine, wait for a freeze to make ice wine, eiswein, or in my case eyswein.:mischief: Ahh, refreshingly good. The eagle warriors deserve something great tasting after a good battle.

I think my first move is Eagle Warrior NE to see what I see of my 'friend' to the north. With 2 settlers, 1 builder and 3 warriors (if that is still the AI Emperor start), this could be a very, very, very early war. War will definitely start if I can get a settler in the open. Based upon what I see with my EW, I'll either settler 1W or on the wine; decision will be affected if I see a settler - for the first time ever I may have to worry about the 4 space distance between cities on turn 1-2. Not sure if I should start a war out the gate or wait until my normal early buildup after I can Agoge spam; if I wait and I settle on the wine I'd have a really early trade for extra gold!

I know an Eagle Warrior must initiate the combat to create a builder and it doesn't work on barbarians. EW builder capture chance 94% on scouts and 69% on warriors. If one could manage to initiate (and win) 3 warrior kills early, this yields builders as follows: ~33% x3, ~44% x2, ~20% x1, ~3% x0, so pretty decent odds. What would one do with so many builders in the first few turns!? Even if you only kill 2 warriors, the odds of getting 0 builders <10%. I don't see anything in the Strategy and Tips forum regarding an odds of EW captured builder chart or how to calculate it for all the various units. If anyone has one please link. If one upgrades to Corps of Eagle Warriors, does that greatly improve the conversion chance of later units due to new Eagle Warrior Corps base strength? Industrial Age Eagle Warriors!!
I think this will be war early and war often, build the pyramids, rush districts with builders. Just have to remember this is a science victory goal. ;)
Don't like it - settling close to the oasis will make a capital with ridiculously low production.
One eagle warrior is 65 production - which will take 15-20 turns - so theres likely to be no early war.

Even without seeing the rest of the map - I'm convinced the best move would be to pull the settler down toward the tea, and settler on turn 2-3. And move the warrior into the woods north and hope to steal a settler.
I've noticed since the latest patch starting right next to an ai civ seems to happen now and again from my offline games. Stealing a settler right off the bat (pretty sure it's possible) would be a ridiculously good start on most maps.
Small hint. You can still play this game on multiplayer. Just host the game with from the save. I know that there is need to have Aztecs and Autralian DLC. I dont know how it works without Aztec DLC but I dont own Australian one and I can play it. [

Please edit your comment to what remains in my quote. That way there is no tips for other players beyond a work around for the DLC
I had thought I had disabled everything, but there is now a no DLC option for this month as well
Thank you, I'll go for that one. Looks like a pretty good start, without the chance of stealing the Japanese settler though. I guess I'll settle in place and go scout-eagle-eagle.

Did you try the work around of playing it in multiplayer?
Yes, it works but I think it replaces australia with some other civ, while in the lobby it shows me the list of 8 civs and there is no australia. Anyway I started with the no-dlc version and it's a quite interesting start, I'll go for this one. Maybe when I'll buy the dlc I'll play the other game too
Looking forward to someone posting a sub-120 victory.
That requires a lot of micro management. I am not sure many have the patience and eye to detail, I certainly do not. Maybe I'll try with the no DLC but I have rushed the normal one to T100 ... the game takes days when you play slow.
Please remember that if you have opened the save, you should not be posting in the Announcement thread as spoilers may slip out. Thanks for helping us with this.
Hi Everyone - recently converted Civ IV player here. I would like to try this GOTM, but when I loaded the save the opening screen froze. "Aztec Empire Joins the World Stage" is displayed, but it just says "$LeaderName" under that. Sean Bean reads the quotes, but the Loading message stays and there is never an option to start. I have all the DLC so I don't think that is the problem. I do play on a Mac, so wonder if that is causing an issue? However, I have played a few earlier GOTM before with no problem (I never finish in time for the deadline because I can only play a couple hours per week, but they are great for learning).
