Note that in this game, any espionage-culture victories will be counted as cultural victories. (Although I think Buffy5 lets us distinguish).

Only Contender save is available.

To Enter the Competition:

This competition will open at 00:01 am on 30 Aug 2018, server local time (UTC-6:00). From that date and time, you'll be able to get your chosen starting save >>>here<<<.

Submit the save after your victory (or defeat) here, by 8 Oct 2018.

Here is a link to a list of the differences between Vanilla, Warlords and BtS.

Software Versions

Windows: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the BUFFY mod version 3.19.005 installed. You can download the BUFFY mod here. Players using Windows Vista or Windows 7 are encouraged to read the notes on Vista fixes here.

Macintosh: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the Mac BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 installed. You can download the Mac BUFFY mod here.
While playing...

Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

We will open 'spoiler' threads during the month for players to discuss what happens in their games. Do not discuss any details of your game outside those threads.

Yay! A new game!

Zara is Creative and Organized, but his Stele give a bonus for Charismatic leaders? Has Deckhand changed something on us or did Sid botch that detail from the start?

It's always been that way. Pretty weak special building. Since you are Creative, there is no need to build them to pop borders. Very nice if going for culture. I can't see it as much use otherwise.

I assume (but do not know for sure) - that you still get the 25% culture after you have discovered Astronomy and can't build them anymore.

From the game page: "Windows players require version 3.19 of Civilization IV BtS, as well as Hof Mod version BUFFY-3.19.003"

Apparently both are required...

I assume you don't get +25% :culture: after the building becomes obsolete. Only the base culture value plus age bonus (if old enough) remain.

Hi, this is my first time playing the game of the month, and Im encountering a 'protected to ensure the assets have not been changed' issue. I downloaded the save, and dragged it to Civ 4 BTS>Saves>Single (Mac). Any help would great thanks and good luck!

Welcome!
Are you running the Mac Buffy mod?

Zara is an underrated leader, his traits are very nice for the early game with free border pops and cheap key buildings (Lib, CH, LH). Sure, the UB is rubbish but the UU is decent enough, being a very sturdy defender with the ability to attack.

The start looks pretty nice, I am torn between settling 1S or 2W.
