COTM 89: Iroqouis!

I was debating reducing the difficulty level to Regent since the next GOTM will be Deity. But running the Iroqouis on Pangaea at that low a level just didn't seem right! :) So you get 7 Deity level AI to contend with, and a bunch of Raging Barbs as well. Fun! Good Luck!

The saves are available >>here<< right now, Feb. 27th. Time is extended to 6 weeks to finish this one.

(Note - the Conquest save is presenting some problems; will update when problems resolved. Edit - Conquest save is now available.)

Civilization: Iroqouis
Rivals: 7
Barbarians: Raging
Difficulty: Deity
Land Form: Pangaea, 70% ocean, Standard map.
Geology:5 billion years old, Normal and Temperate.
AI Aggression: Normal (More Aggressive for Predator)

Conquest-Class Bonuses:

  1. Free CB and Warrior Code
1 Extra Settler, 1 Extra Worker and 2 Free Spearmen
    100 Free Gold

Open-Class Bonuses
Free CB

Predator-Class Obstacles:

  1. Do not get free CB
    UU costs 35 Shields (+5)
AI Aggression increased 1 notch to More Aggressive

This looks very interesting. I do have a question: Will it be one month to GOTM120? If so, I may choose Open because of the aggression handicap, because I would want to minimize the risk of an AI stumbling into Salamanca after 10 turns, which would leave me with no XOTM to play for almost a month.

Lots of forest will be useful for building a kind of wooden granary and considering the risk of being closed in by the AI I would want to do a farmer's gambit or at least a kind of semigambit. An interesting challenge will be to prosper without triggering a premature golden age with the UU.

Considering what Megalou just said and the fact that I perhaps won't have time to finish a Deity game even in six weeks I'll play open this time. And a unit cost of 35 bars short rushing.

Yes, the Golden Age will come when it has to come. Will be a bit of a gamble where some players will have more luck than others, but hey, it's just a game.

Well said, it's just a game. I will not lose any sleep over this game, in a double sense, with the one exception that I will allow myself to lose some physical sleep in the final session of the game.

Initial move are fairly obvious here: Settle in place, Worker to Game, chop, road, irrigate and we arrive at 5 fpt at a population of 3 after 11 turns. Working Forests in the mean time can hold back population growth. You could irrigate before roading to compensate. Time to bring out that spread-sheet again...

Not sure I'll have time for this one but it looks good. I'll have to make time. A free tech at open? Must mean we'll need some priests. Hmmm. Where to put my first temple . . . :crazyeye:

What first tech choice should be made the wheel or writing?

Man, I hope not! :p I "plan" to get GOTM120 out during the first half of March, probably on the 2nd weekend.
Good news. Mind you, I wasn't trying to be smart but referring to the ongoing discussion on frequency.

I already chose Open, I'm afraid. It's a comfort that Predator seemed too hot even for Più Freddo.

I think those are both good choices. Mind you, researching Writing (320 beakers) in less than 50 turns (maximum) means averaging more than 6 beakers net per turn. But without it you can't get the free Technology for being the first to discover Philosophy.

This touches the same topic that I had already been thinking about last night: should we try for the full slingshot, or consent ourselves with going to Philo directly? My idea was: if none of the AIs starts with Alphabet, it might be worth taking the risk?

is there a possibility do extend the time to play this for two more weeks? deity is time consuming, and i see a chance to finish the game with that additional time. anyone else who is trying but lacking time?

how do you count 17? it should be 10, and very probably that indeed will not be enough for me.

of course i do not expect any extra time if i am the only one who has the time problem.

but if you, Memento, happen to have so much spare time at hands, you could eventually play one turn in our duel... :mischief:

what for did i again count 6 weeks from the start of this thread ? ;)

and, no really, 1 WHOLE TURN?!? :eekdance: just make sure that you are not moving in a hurry :D

you may consider to rename the thread in your signature, like, duel of the sleepmongers, or, Memento and templar_x delayed.

We're way past this deadline. Are you OK, Steve?

I am, but there's just no time ... and I'm out next week, so I will put a quick game out (not the GOTM120 I was planning; that will have to come later)

Glad to hear you are ok.

No problem, this is just a game and real life has to come first. Take your time.

I was wondering, since i do not play CotM games, maybe i could be of help setting them up in the future.
