Spoiler :
Now I had a problem. I wanted to go to war with Cyrus because his cities were causing massive cultural pressure on my northern borders. But he still had enormous stacks of – increasingly, cavalry. I was just starting to get riflemen online, but mostly only had cannon and knights – no match for cavalry.

Then a thought occurred to me.

Is it possible that…..?

Yes!

I waited a couple of turns, and Cyrus piled basically his entire army into his most recently captured Mongol city.

It hadn't come out of revolt yet – and even better – many of his units were not yet healed.

And that meant – no borders - so I could declare war – and my CR2 and CR3 cannon would be able to take the city and wipe out the entire stack on the same turn...
That was definitely the sweetest moment of the game. Something like 30-40 Persian cavalry and knights no longer a threat.

:assimilate: assimilate award to all those who achieved the wrong victory condition evil_spock, Jastrow, Dynamic_Spirit, Dhoomstriker
Spoiler :
evil_spock, no Conquest wins at all this game - you must have scared everyone off (or we can blame it on neil, quickspeed and Mansa)

Jastrow, nice to see you doing something besides space and getting 2nd place for a "sloppy effort"

Dhoom,
Spoiler :
"I was actually probably better positioned for Space than Diplo but with less than a couple of hours to the submission deadline"

Dynamic_Spirit,
Spoiler :
" I badly oversleep the next day. And I realize after I wake up that there's only 1 hour left before the submission deadline!

Umm. Oops!

So no time to go to space. The only way I'm going to be able to submit at all is by letting the upcoming domination play out"

 "Nobody cares" award to High King J.J. who didn't bother to summit

 cool kids award to everyone that settled on the hill ;)

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Wow, now that's a comprehensive summary of the game and it is a great way to encourage people to post their spoilers!

UB40: 2046 AD Domination Victory, 11,260 points.

purpleshield.gif
Zhary: 2048 AD Diplomatic Victory, 7,413 points.
Talk about cutting it close to the end of the game!

Nice Cultural Victory date, toller pretzl!

Good showing on Domination, as usual, Cactus Pete!

 Evilmapmaker award to neilmeister for putting Mansa in the corner

:ninja: Ninja award to Deckhand for posting these results before neil could
Nice tag-team efforts. "You make the insidious games and I'll report on them."

:smug: The "I don't need to settle on a stinkin' Hills square" award of smugness goes to craigholl. ;)

evil_spock, no Conquest wins at all this game - you must have scared everyone off (or we can blame it on neil, quickspeed and Mansa)

I scared myself by playing so badly, but I'm OK with blaming Neil . While we're at it, let's also blame him for the global warming and David Hasselhoff's music career! I don't know how but surely he is somehow responsible.

Hats off to the top 3.

Well neilmeister is a computer programmer, and he does sometimes work very long hours (which we think is why he wasn't around to do the results) - so, who knows what he's got his computer doing. I'd say it's very plausible that he's responsible for a lot of things, including - as you say - global warming, probably the cosmological constant and the existence of earthquakes. I suspect actually that the Serpent that first tempted Eve to eat that apple in the Garden of Eden was being programmed by neilmeister too.

But don't you think that David Hasselhoff's music career is stretching plausibility a bit too far? That seems a bit unlikely to me.

@Deckhand - great job on the results and on the thorough way you worked out the awards! That adds a lot of fun to the game and the results :goodjob: (and I'm really not just saying that because you gave me two of them :mischief:)

Congrats to the medal and award winners (the ones who won the 'genuine' awards).

Wasn't aware that neil played at Deity level.

Enjoyed the creative write up, Deckhand.
Thx
I didn't know what to say about you. For anyone else, the Gold Medal is Super; but for you, it is Same-Ol'-Same-Ol'
Spoiler :
and you didn't post in Spoilers, so no special award :p
Spoiler :
I still need to find my notes and say something about my game.

Wow, a Cow  Didn't expect that. Actually was hoping for Space award but thought that Jastrow will get one as usual with his "pretty sloppy effort"

So congrats to zbgayumn for beating me :) Hopefully you don't hold a grudge anymore :)

Spoiler :
I remember putting the last SS part on hold just to get one last city from Cyrus :hammer2: Otherwise it might have been the same date as zbgayumn.

Wasn't aware that neil played at Deity level.
:lmao:

And thanks to Deckhand for this creative results summary :)

 "Nobody cares" award to High_King_JJ who didn't bother to summit

Yes, I don't care except that my forum name has no _ characters and J's have a period after both. Period. I didn't even care to submit my game.

I assume "nobody cares" is a subtle hint for me to discontinue posting. Sorry, I don't read subtle.

@High King J.J.
 what a great example of internet miscommunication
of course we don't want you to quit posting, that is absurd
we want more participation

I was quoting your first spoiler post. That you posted earned you an award.
Now it's official: I hate quick speed.
Nobody cares about my :gripe:ing so I spare you the details (besides I still reached the AD's before this thread existed so perhaps I can be excused for not wanting to remember my failures).
Had this been a normal speed game I might have finished this.

Sorry about misspelling your name. I have trouble with underscores because the forum underscores our names.
edit, The only subtle hint would be to submit incomplete games.

I'm too :old: to remember my previous :gripe: postings. With that reference I of(f) course get it now.
GOTMs bring me joy through my final, fading years.
Spoiler :
Until I get a chance to die killing invading Russians. My, those training exercises in neighbouring countries sure kill a lot of Russian troops. But that's the price for having :satan: incarnate as your ruler. Proof: :satan: is called "the father of lies" just like Putler is. Not to mention a mass murderer.

So congrats to zbgayumn for beating me :) Hopefully you don't hold a grudge anymore :)

Thanks! We seem to be cutting it close on a regular basis! And picking the same VC's with alarming frequency.

I think I can let go of the grudge. It's been long enough that I just barely remember how much time I sank into that game.

It's kind of ironic that I put all that effort into a getting a Cow because I thought I would never win one of the other awards, and now I have a Culture award and a Space award in consecutive games.
