ever since i found this mod, i always play it. you can still play regular games but there's so much cool stuff added at the end. i load next war for every game i play including earth 18. if you haven't found it yet check it out it's cool there's lots of new stuff added at the end of the tech tree. new techs, buildings, and units.

I like the mechs. Reminds me of playing Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries back in the day.

i wish they weren't limited to only 4 mechs.

Well they're insanely powerful. Their strength is exceeded only by that big tank thing, but they can do ranged bombardments and attack over and over.

That could be changed, modding the mod.

But the things are awesome. The four by themselves can practically fight a war on their own. If you handle them right (which isn't too hard against the AI), they'll never die. Supplement them with the big tanks (leviathans, behemoths, some sort of big monster), and the limit isn't that horrible.

i just like the idea of mechs. The should just swap out the modern armor and mech inf with mechs.

@inky, how do you mod a mod?

Just mod the XML with an editing program (i.e; notepad).

EDIT: because im a nice guy, here's the file, just put it into the Beyond the Sword/Mods/Next War/ Assets/ XML/ Units. Put the original in a safe place.

It removes the mech AND dreadnought limit.

I have one question about "Next War":

Is it possible to remove those generic civilizations created for this scenario? I want to play with the standard and historical ones only...

The civs are in the Civ4CivilizationsInfo.

EDIT: Easier way to do this: Remove BOTH the Civ4CivilizationInfo AND the Civ4DiplomacyText. However, i suggest keeping them somewhere safe, because the scenario (Unless you use the Custom Scenario Option) won't work without them.

There's several modified Next War scenarios floating around. JKP's Not Another Next War Scenario is one that I highly suggest checking out, and the Next War Revolution combination is quite nice, too.

I'd encourage anyone who wants to tweak their games to poke around the XML files, just make sure you keep an intact copy as a backup/replacement. I've quickly realized that once I started tinkering with the XML, I just can't stop.

Or you can implement that ability as a wonder:

HERC Factory
.

Thomas' War is one of my favorite expanded Next War mods.

how can i find those mods. do they have more techs and stuff. i dont know how to use them on my computer without messing something up.

NWA i've never played, but i don't like RoM2, it's so different.
I'm probably not going to play NWA, because it would take so long (1gig compressed, comes in 2 parts). But if you want to, just unzip to desktop and drag into your
Civilization IV/Beyond the Sword/Mods folder and load it up like you would load the Next War mod.
